I don't mean to sound whiney or complainy, but today has been a real CRAPY day for me!

I've been having health issues lately, and having to have all kinds of tests and all that is always crappy anyway.... I had an appt today and it didn't go very well... and I have another tomorrow

But THIS Police: Young Child Loses 7 Fingers to Family Ferret was on the news today, and online........ and its ALL I've heard about all day!!

I feel like I have been chastised and bullied. Some people have been telling me I need to get rid of my ferrets, one of my "friends" has yelled at me because Izzy comes to work with me (I work at a day care) and I am just "asking for it."

EVEN WORSE is that I feed RAW. Apparently, I am training and encouraging them to be "bloodthirsty killers."

What is worse, its on the local news stations facebook page, and there are people who are commenting on it that ferrets are "wild animals and they should be BANNED" And someone had the nerve to tag me when they reposted in on there page

There are some ferret owners on there that have commented and said their peace, but they're very obviously outnumbered. I'm just sick of hearing about it already, I honestly feel bad for the ferret AND the baby Where in the HECK were the parents, couldn't they HEAR their baby screaming?? Was the poor thing starved? This is just ridiculous!!!

I am usually a very peaceful person (and I don't like cussing) but I swear... if ONE more person says something to me about it, they're either getting cussed out, or slapped in the face...

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Police in Grain Valley say that an infant child was maimed and lost several fingers in an apparent ferret attack on Monday.

According to police, the four-month-old boy was in an infant rocker in the living room of the home in the 200 block of Young Street when his mother apparently fell asleep while watching television. When she awoke, police say that she saw the family's pet ferret next to the child, who was covered in blood and missing several of his fingers.

Police say that the boy's father killed the ferret, which is being tested for rabies. According to police, the child lost all but his thumbs and one pinky as a result of the attack.

The boy was taken to a metro hospital, where his condition is not known. Grain Valley Police are investigating the incident.

Incidents like this are incredibly sad but as usual, it's the parent's fault for leaving an animal, any animal, unattended with a young child.

As for this proving that ferrets are wild animals and should be banned, how many more children have been attacked (and even killed) by dogs? Even cats attack more people than ferrets. By the logic of the people telling you to get rid of your ferrets, everyone should get rid of all their pets. Every animal has the potential to do damage.

Umm WHY WAS A FERRET LEFT WITH A BABY UNSUPERVISED?! She was supposed to be watching the baby, (and the ferret!) not sleeping! How can anyone blame the ferret, seriously?! A mother that fell asleep on the couch watching TV didn't wake up to her child screaming bloody murder when it's fingers were being gnawed off?

I am so sorry you have to put up with this =( Shame on the mother for not paying attention. This is just like the "Well I fell asleep while smoking a cigarette and we lost our son/daughter/mother/father/etc as a result of that fire so we are going to sue the cigarette manufactures because it's their fault" instead of taking responsibility for THEIR OWN ACTIONS (ie: falling asleep during baby duty while pets are roaming around the house)

I agree with xeopse too. One of the parents was supposedly in the same room with the baby and ferret. I forgot if it was the father or mother they said on the news. The father killed the ferret by throwing it repeatedly..... ):

Yeah I don't believe for a second that either parent was in the room, awake or otherwise. No parent sleeps through their child screaming in true pain. When you hear a child being hurt like that, your natural instincts kick in and it doesn't matter how deeply you were sleeping. Maybe if she was on some serious drugs...

I feel badly for the child because the parents obviously weren't being responsible...(IMO) Unless your on some type of drugs or narcoleptic (sp?) you know when your getting sleepy and starting to doze off...at this point it's the parents responsibility to #1 put the animals away and #2 put the infant in a crib or playpen where it will be safe...your not supposed to leave an infant in a swing or rocker to sleep in because of the risk of tipping over or strangulation due to entrapment of the belts if the little one is starting to be mobile or trys to roll over while in the swing.
I feel horrible for the ferret, I understand being angry and being enraged, but animal abuse is not the answer, the man should be held accountable for killing the ferret because throwing it against the wall untill it died was torture...if he wanted it to be put down it could and should of been done humanely...



On a side note....My children are DOOMED! I have raw fed Pitbulls and Ferrets, a back yard swimming pool, a dart board that uses steel tips, and guns in our house..... if they make it to 18 I'm sure society will think it's a miracle....

my question is how hungry was that ferret to eat a babys fingers? i mean i know they resemble pinkies but even when my ferrets bite my toes they never seem to think NOMNOM

I really hope that they investigate the parents, and take away the child and any other animals they may have. There is obviously a bigger issue behind this all, I would guess drugs as well.

All of that is just so ridiculous.
These 'parents' are the ones that should be questioned.
If you can't supervise your ferret you shouldn't have one.

I think they werent in the house at all. Thats why they didnt hear it. They are were at aunt beas next door. At the deli to get a beer or yaking it up with frank the retired(you fill in). Very stupid parents. GGRRRR

Some one on one board suggested the parents left the baby in the car and it got frost bite. They lopped the fingers off and blamed the ferret so they wouldn't be blamed. Which DOES make a whole heck of a lot of sense, since CPS was called on them before for child neglect.

"I live in the neighborhood where this happened. I am beginning to think they were not at home. I know in the short time they have lived there, they have had one dog removed from the home for neglect and they were caught leaving the 3 older children, all under 8 alone before this baby was born. And those are just the incidents I know about. The police have been there several times. That maybe explains why they didn't "hear" the baby scream! So sad!"

Of course there's no proof that person is telling the truth but I wouldn't be surprised.
