They are adorable! And mamma is looking good there, too. How is she now?

thanks, Buffy is feeling a bit stronger now. The vet put her on a good quality kitten replacement milk as it has all the vitamins & minerals, and raw soupies for a few days. He said the kits are some of the healthiest he has ever seen, and they are big for their age too. As you can see in her photo, her coat is growing back, the neck area is still a bit light on as well as her tail. But vet is sure it will all grow back nicely. If I am still concerned after the kits are weaned he will do some blood teats then.
I will post more photo's when Buffy lets me uncover them for longer. It is just a few days into spring here, so still cold.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you use for a birthing cage and what bedding do you use? What special supplies or set up did you have to do? Thanks ciao

Happy to share my birthing box ideas. Last year when Buffy had her kits it was very hot and the spare bedroom was converted into baby nursery. We put a board in front of the doorway to keep her in, and gave her the portable air conditioner, but this year it was late winter.
Her birthing box is the same as last year, as it worked and she liked it and helped design it too. It is an open cardboard box with a hole cut in the front wall for her to get in & out. I put a towel on the base, then lined it with an old winter bed sheet over the base and walls and hung it over the outside so it was on the floor, to stop her taking the kits under it, then pull the rest of the sheet over so it is sitting on top of the box as a lid. Add small quilts and blankets to the top, then arrange it so it is draping down into the box so the back section is about 6" off the base. Buffy designed this idea herself, it gives her somewhere to put the kits when they are cold, its like a sleeping bag. If I have not put it low enough, she will pull the sheet down to lower it more. Then she will dig around inside and bunch up the sheet making them a little nest. Last year when it was hot, she would pull the blanket off the box when it got warmer through the day, but always left a sheet on it. That was an amazing sight watching her. That made me think it was better to have a few layers of blankets & little quilts that I made, for her to pull a layer off as it got warmer.
Also amazing is that she gave birth to each kit just outside of the box on the fluffy mat I had put there to cover the floorboards making it a bit warmer in the nest. After she had cleaned up the kit, she gently picked him up and put him in the nest. She did this with every one, and the little nest stayed clean & warm.
The thing I had to buy was 2 more litter trays, such a clean little Miss, when the babies are very young she will only poo once in the litter box, until I clean it, so she has 4 trays. I also got puppy pads to put in front of the litter trays for her to "wipe".
Bindi is due to give birth on the 26th of this month. It will be intersting to compare their mothering habits.
When the kits are a bit older and wander out of the nest, I will get some photo's of the birthing box so you can see how I made it up. Then other people can use that idea if they want. It has been 100% safe and very warm.
Now I have to work out how to separate Buffy & her kits from Bindi having her kits in the same room, I will have to make some type of barrier.
Thanks for reading this, hope it made some sort of sense.

It does make sense and if you wouldn't mind taking photos after your little one is through with her nest it would be appreciated. Such information is always welcome. I would be very interested to hear your observations between the two jills birthing, nesting and mothering methods. I'm glad that your little jill is doing better, that is always wonderful news. Please keep us posted and information regarding preparation, and other information regarding birthing and upkeep of kits is always welcome. Though we don't often get to deal with this sort of thing, this information is invaluable and really appreciated. ciao

Wow, it is so exciting watching the little ones get some colour now. It looks like most are plain sable, but the one in the photo above with the white head now has white socks and a bib, not sure yet if it is a panda or just sable mitt, as the fur on its head is so fluffy hard to tell if skin is pink yet. Hoping it colours up like Bindi, her pretty kit from last year. I think its a girl, will look later & try to get some more photo's. I just changed the bedding with Buffy's help, put a blanket down & put kits on it, then changed the sheet. Buffy was running in & out of box making sure I did it right, then made sure I put all the quilts & blankets back on the top just right before we put babies back in, little sweety. You are welcome, it was a pleasure. I will post more as their markings change, that will be often now I think. They seem to have a lot of white markings, so that will be nice.
