None of the Marshall's I have seen and held (over 200) have had foot tattoos and I am in the U.S. They have two dots in their right ears.

Can anyone post a picture? I have never noticed a foot tattoo on any ferret up here, but then I wasn't looking. I am pretty sure Kenai doesn't have one... What do they look like?

My understanding is that there's just a dot on a toe, similar to the ear dots ciao

It will be in the webbing between the toes.

I tried to take a picture (got Bantha distracted with olive oil and everything ), but it came out to blurry (d**n camera phones ). It's a dot tattoo like the ones on the ear, except it's on the footpad of the toe, usually on the inner part near the webbing, like Sherrylynne said.

I decided to send Marshall an e-mail. Here is what I sent: Out of curiosity, a ferret forum group I'm a member of has been discussing Marshall ferret tattoos. We are aware that the two ear tattoos represent desenting and spay/neuter, however we were curious about toe tattoos. What do these tattoos mean? And why do some of your ferrets have them but others do not? Thank you kindly for your time. Virginia Parham I didn't bother going into the whole "we feed raw" thing cause I didn't want to bother with the "buy our food it's better" junk. I'll let you guys know if I hear anything back from them. I'm sort of wondering myself. I didn't notice any tattoos on my three (all Marshall's) but I also didn't know to look between the toes. I'll check again later.

Paulie has a toe tattoo on one of his front toes. He is huge! (4-5 pounds). He is like a late neuter hob size wise, I swear. I wonder how big he would have got without early neutering ...

That looks like it could well be a toe tattoo.

I'm going to check sly tonight - but as the ferret harmony page suggests - sly is a dark sable (i think?)
As for the neutering and descenting isn't that what the two in the ear means? so why would they need a foot tattoo also?

Sometimes I wonder if that's a tattoo even to signal they are being considered for breeding stock. Those guys have to come from somewhere. *shrugs* I don't worry over it. Paulie doesn't mind that blue dot on his toe.

After seeing the picture above, I think sly has that.. i'm not sure though.. it could be from some other ferret I saw it but it looks familiar.
