Well we've been completely kibble free for a whole week now, between my soupies and thawed commercial raw patties (been feeding Stella & Chewy's duck patties). Still not on chunks yet, but considering they're all happily off kibble I say we've made a huge step! Even Loki-butt is happy and he was my kibble head up till now. Asher would be perfectly happy to never eat kibble again. Juno is in between. She'll eat it but she prefers meat.

Just to switch things up, I tried the kids out on mashed rabbit last night. It was also a hit. It seems that, as long as the meat is mashed up, they are recognizing it as food no matter the smell/taste. I'm going to start the epic "eat chunks you little brats" battle this weekend. Any tips?

Make sure they're hungry? What I had to do was just gradually increase the size of the pieces a wee bit at a time, so they didn't get overwhelmed by them. I'd cut several bits a little larger than you do now, and mix those in. So, if the chunks you use are this big now [-], cut them this big [--], and mix that with some of the mush. It might take a couple of days for them to start getting used to a larger size, but persevere- they'll get there. They've come so far already!!!

Well the chunks were a no go. Wouldn't eat them unless they were stirred in with thawed soupies. I can't seem to get them to eat meat chunks larger than a corn kernel.

Then stir them in with thawed soupies!!! What ever it takes, right now ;D You can worry about reducing the amount of soup later on. As long as they'll take the larger bits. Or- if you prefer, we can work on reducing the soup before increasing the chunk size! Let me know which one you'd rather do.

I've got to make a new batch of soupies tonight. I'll reserve some of the chicken and cut it up and add it again. I'd really rather try to reduce the soupies first and increase chunk size after that. For some reason, making soupie is very time consuming for me and I'd like to just cut up the meat and be done.

Well Ash is definitely ready to try some meat secured to the cage bar. He's got chewing down pat, now I gotta get him to rend meat from the chunk. In other news, Loki recognizes the chunks as food. He licks them. But he doesn't get the whole chewing thing. I put a few small pieces in his mouth and he chewed them while giving me the stink eye and struggling. Juno won't lick or chew. She'll sniff, but the chunks still = the poison.

It will just take a little more time with her. But she'll get there! For Asher, to get him to rend the meat from bone, you can try using a drumette, or drumstick, whichever you prefer. Slash it to the bone, so the meat is hanging off of it. You may have to play tug with him a bit, or he might just go for it on his own! With Loki, he's getting there. Once he starts actually picking up the bits, you can either try larger chunks, or simply cutting a "meat spaghetti". Longer strips about the same size around as he's getting, if he doesn't take to the larger bits.

What is a drumette? Is that the thick portion of a chicken wing? Yeah i was going to cut it down to the bone, then snip it up a little more with shears to create small-ish pieces still attached to the bone. As far as Loki and Juno are concerned, I'm going to keep the at the same level right now: soupies with tiny chunks mixed in.

Yes, that's the drumette. And it's a good starter for learning to tear at. With Loki and Juno, whatever you are comfortable with at the moment. Maybe if they are watching Asher tearing and hissing away, they might even get interested enough
