Yeah, it sounds like either he ate too fast, or took too large a piece, tossed it so he could eat a smaller bit off of it. And yes- that's fairly normal, too I'm so glad that Juno especially was enjoying her food! I'd keep this up for maybe 3-4 days, just to make sure they are all eating it, then start dicing meat, and give them that. If they are able to eat the small pea sized bits in the soup, they can certainly handle small diced meat. Although, you may have to put some puree on it at first.

I think when I start dicing the meat up I'm going to give it to them with an "organ gravy" of heart and liver and water. I'm going to cut up the meat with kitchen scissors.

I wish I'd thought of using the shears for the muscle meat when I switched my original 4. I actually stood there, dicing tiny bits of meat with my chef's knife

Haven't done much other than continue the soupie as is. I have a crazy ear infection that is keeping me pretty miserable and not wanting to play with raw meat.
In some fun news, Juno is now my "Crazy Muffin" while she bounces all over the place and dooks up a storm.

I'm sorry to hear that. Ear infections are certainly no fun in any way! You take care of yourself, and we'll get them moving along when you are feeling more yourself.

Not raw feeding related but, Asher finally took some ferretone last night. He used to hate the stuff and now he likes it (though not quite as much as Loki who is a freak with it). I'm glad because now hopefully nail trimmings will be a little less chaotic with him.
I still haven't found a good source of small marine fish oil, which I'd like to use instead of the ferretone. The only one I found online was a HUGE bottle and I was afraid it'd go bad long before I could use it.

They will go rancid, too. Unless they are preserved with BHT's, etc- which is the reason I limit the 'tone Can you pick up salmon oil capsules? A bit more of a pain, but you just prick the end of the gelcap, and give it that way.

I'm still not feeling 100% but I did manage to stumble across some Stella & Chewy's frozen Duck patties when we picked up our dog food. Suffice it to say, the kids love duck. So far we've had good luck with duck, lamb, and chicken. They're not fans of pork as far as I can tell and they really don't like beef.
I put some chicken thighs to thaw in the fridge last night. I'm planning on taking the skin and a little bit of meat + dehydrated turkey heart and making a "gravy" to pour around the chunks. What size do you think? They're already eating a thick mash, and Asher will eat small pea sized chunks. I think with the gravy to entice them, I can get Loki and June to eat small chunks too. Just not sure on the size.

For right now, I'd make the chunks small enough that they really don't have to chew them. But the gravy sounds like a good idea, if they'll take it.

Last night I made pea sized chunks with a little bit of gravy. Asher lapped up the gravy, ate one or two chunks, and then stashed the rest. *sigh* I pulled them out of his stash and put them back in the bowl. I tried to hand feed Loki and Juno. They would both lick the chunks but stopped at that. I broke off tiny bits and did the scruff and stuff, but they were very displeased and spit the meat out. Eventually I got them to chomp and swallow a tiny bit each. There was no chicken left in the bowl this morning but that could mean either Ash ate it all or (more likely) stashed it.
They got duck patties mashed up this morning. I will look for the chicken chunks when I get home tonight.

Oh, they are being brats!!! You might have to get a little more drastic on their butts. But first- how willingly are those two taking the mush? If they still need some coaxing, just keep up with what you are doing for now, til they eat the mush like a normal meal. Then, we'll step it up. If you like, with Asher, try adding less and less gravy to the small chunks, til he's eating those alone.

They're pretty good with the mash although Juno and Loki like the mash ever so slightly thinned (1 T water to a whole thigh of chicken meat). With the duck patties I put about 2 T of water and everyone is happy.
And yes, they ARE being brats!

As hard as it may be, try chopping the chunks just a wee bit smaller for those two. Basically a hand chopped largish mince, instead of a ground texture. Use a bit of water or the "gravy" to mix it with, but just enough to flavour it. Do that, and leave the mix in the cage for the day. That night, do the same thing again. They are recognizing the mash as food, but are having a problem with the texture of the chunks themselves. Which is why I mentioned making them a bit smaller. We are trying to take them that one step up, and they are likely going to be a bit stubborn about it. You may wind up spoon feeding this again for a while, but since they still won't have to actually chew this, they shouldn't need to run off to stash when they get a piece in their mouths. If they insist, try to get them to go to a spot where you can watch. It might take a bit of repetition, but don't let up. They might just need to get a bit hungry to be willing to actually eat it.

I don't know if I CAN cut the pieces of meat smaller. When they weren't eating the pea sized chunks, I snipped them in half. We're talking pieces approximately the same size as half of a pencil eraser. When I held Juno and Loki, I would further pinch off about half of that and do the scruff and stuff. So we're talking very very tiny pieces of meat. Not sure what to do other than let them get hungry enough to eat it.

Ok, fine. They're being brats, then Next step. Keep doing what you are doing for a few days, see if they pick it up. If not, then we'll have to "push" them a bit.
