Heather makes a good point, in my home the alpha (Morgan) eats first and then the others get to eat. If someone comes a-sniffing before Morgan is done, he'll snap at them. But it's the way their hierarchy works and while disturbing to us as people, it does calm down once everyone accepts the natural order. Just supervise feedings for now, it should pass as they get more comfortable.
How are the older girls doing?
So my busy weekend is over and I'll be more available now --- sorry I wasn't around! I hope you had a good couple of days. How's the job going??

Our little guys, though they're our sweeties, aren't too far from the real deal, same as the cat. Yes, they're our loving pet and we snuggle them and give them kisses and they kiss back but they're not too far removed from their wilder cousins. My guys squabble, scream and generally create bedlam (try a couple of deaf ferrets, Lady "B" is alpha and deaf). They fight over quail, whole rabbits, rats, mice and strangely enough what will cause the ultimate mayhem....gibblets I agree, it's hard to watch, and even harder to listen to but it's part of what they are. Good luck, I will now leave you to your most capable mentor ciao

The older girls hadn't eaten in like 9 or 10 hours yesterday and I was out of soups, so it was either give them chicken chunks or thaw more ground. I decided to try the chunks first and all three of them ate them!

Yeah. I was SHOCKED! Especially since Lucinda is usually so reluctant. I'm expecting them to resist tonight because that's what they typically do, but at least I know now we're over that hurdle.
As far as Sully and Nuka, I've just been staying out of their little food wars other than to make sure no one is drawing blood. It also helps if I cut larger items, like CGH, into smaller pieces. They still hiss and squeal, but it gets a lot worse when they have to share one big piece of meat than when they have smaller pieces to choose from.

That's fair, and trust me, the squeals and hisses will tell you which meals are their favorites. Gizzards are a big hiss fest here. So is rabbit and lamb. I'm so proud of the girls! Do expect them to step back --- it's always two steps forward, one step back during a switch of this magnitude. But they're well on their way and it won't be long now before everyone is on the same page. Exhilarating, isn't it?

Surprisingly, they ate all their chicken last night too, and when I gave them NV lamb today, which the older girls have never had, they went right for it!

Wow they are just storming right along! That is so awesome. I think you have definitely passed the biggest hurdle with them, and now it's just a matter of introducing other meats and bones! Awesome!

Eek! So here's a weird one for you...
Half an hour ago I was sitting in my family room in the basement with insomnia when my little brother came running down the stairs. "Do you have mice?!" he asked.
"Uh...yeah. Why?"
"Because there's two of them in my room!"
"What do they look like?" I asked, disbelieving that they were MY mice.
"One is white and one is like brown and white."
So I rushed upstairs and sure enough, Soren and Saga, one of my breeding pairs, was loose and scurrying around my brother's room. Apparently he'd been hearing the noise for like an hour and when he finally saw them, it scared the crap out of him. At first he thought he'd attracted them because his room is so GROSS, which had me laughing so hard I couldn't catch them. I finally scooped up Saga, but Soren darted under the door and veered toward my parents' bedroom! We think he's under their bed, but they're both asleep and it's a little hard to snoop around in the dark right now. My stepdad already woke up once when I went into their bathroom and I had to lie and say I was looking for the Ibuprofen, LOL. I'm not sure whether to laugh or worry that my stepdad's going to have an absolute cow if he wakes up to a rodent escapee tomorrow morning when he's getting ready for work. Let's hope he doesn't see him, haha. This is going to be soooo much fun to explain to my mom...

Ohhhh man that's hilarious Amber. I shouldn't laugh... but... come on it's funny One reason why live is not a great idea for me haha, I'd be too worried about escapees! So I suppose you're going to have to figure out how they got out and fix that, huh? Good luck!

Well, we finally got Soren back safely! There are days when my brother is a troll and days when he's an absolute angel, like today. My parents and I were sitting outside so my bro and his girlfriend went on an all-out hunt for this mouse and ended up finding him under my mom's bed. They chased him out and my brother cornered him in the bathroom and plugged up the crack under the door so he couldn't escape again while his girlfriend came to get me and I was able to scoop Soren up. The poor thing was so scared, hungry, and thirsty! He was really happy to be back in his cage with his food and his girlfriend. LOL And yes, it WAS hilarious. Even my mom, who wasn't thrilled, had to laugh this morning. It's like I told her: "Normal people don't have these problems." By the way...the Sully/Nuka hierarchy seems to be working itself out, and guess who the dominant one is? Little, teeny Nuka. I'm really shocked! I thought Sully would put her in her place, but tonight he just kind of shrugged and stood back to wait his turn.

I'm glad you got Soren back safely! Poor little guy. And I'm not at all surprised that Nuka is the boss. I find that in a business of all early-alters, females are almost always the alpha. Late alters, it's a whole new story, though!
How is everyone eating today??

Good, good! The girls really like their meat chunks and will eat rabbit, chicken, beef, lamb, and turkey now! I'm due to go shopping though. I'm almost down to nothing but NV medallions, which would be fine for them for a few days, but I want to try chicken wings with the older girls sometime soon.

Any news?
School starts for me tomorrow, I have a job interview Tuesday for a position at an animal hospital, and I just met the most wonderful girl on the planet. So I've been busy! I hope things are going great for you, too. We'll catch up on AIM soon, okay?
