So he thought i was a cow? Hmm maybe hes telling me i need to go on a diet lol. They both went nuts over the pigs feet. They looooved them. Cesar started eating right away, without trying to "kill" me first lol. Jaspers a little brat. They are best buds, but when it comes to food, Jaspers "wild" side comes out lol. I gave them 2 pigs feet, so they could each have one. They both started eating fine at first, but then Jasper decided he wanted the one Cesar had. I feed them on a paper plate, and so whenever Cesar would get to the other piece, Jasper would decide he wanted that one again. So it looked like they were running in circles around the plate. I had to actually hold Jasper just to Cesar could have a minute to eat without being chased. I was holding Jasper and he was struggling to get to cesars food.. and then cesar just looked at him, looked at me, picked up his pig feet, and walked over to another paper plate that was on the floor on the other side of the room (i guess i was lazy yesterday and forgot to pick it up) It was so cute.. he put the pig foot right on the plate like he knows hes not supose to eat it on the carpet. They didnt finish the pig feet, but theres still meat on it so i left them out for the boys to have again tonight. They had more beef again last night with the pig feet, just because pig feet dont have much meat.

I'm glad they like the feet!! I'm amazed that Ceaser could carry the pig foot. those things are big.
It's funny watching them trade food, isn't it??
As a bit of a recap can you post their weekly menu?

I get the cut up pig feet for them, whole ones for Bailey. Theyre in small sections cut in half, so it wasnt to big for him to carry. The whole ones i get for Bailey are probably almost as big as the ferret's whole body lol. This week they had chicken legs+gibblets, ground beef, pig feet, a beef marrow bone(they loove licking the marrow out of those), chicken liver+chicken wings, and i gave them a little meat of a pork rib (Baileys dinner) because i knew they would never eat the whole thing, or the bone. I tried beef liver again, they still dont like that. I dont remember the exact day of each, but thats what they've had in the past week. I try to switch it around, so they have somthing different each day. Cesars eating "whole" food again. I gave them a whole chicken leg and they ate it, without me having to cut it up for him Im having some "parent issues" so i havent really been staying at my house for the past couple days. So again, sorry if i dont reply back right away. Ill try to update as much as i can.

sorry it took so long to reply, I've had so much stuff going on over the last few days.
If you can post an exact menu for this week then we may be able to graduate them, as long as they are eating chicken liver that would be enough for the organ portion until you are able to convince them to eat other organs.
I'm glad to hear that Ceaser is doing so much better.
Sorry to hear about your "parent issues" be careful with that, many people don't realize how important they are until they are no longer there.

I cut them a little peice of beef heart out of Baileys dinner. I got him a bunch of whole ones, but the ferrets deffinetly could never eat that much lol. Both of them liked it. This week will be, monday- beef ribs, they really like chewing the meat off of those, tuesday- chicken gibblets&wings, wednesday- pig feet (& a little ground beef if they dont get enough meat with that) thursday- chicken legs&liver, Im going to the store either friday or saturday & getting Bailey & ferret food. If i go on friday they will get goat (its finally on sale, that stuffs expencive now) and im going to get some cornish game hens if they are on sale too. Is that enough of a variety? I think i might go to the pet store every couple weeks and get them each a live mouse. If they both like them, and eat them, i might take another try at breeding them once winter is over.

The menu looks really good, the only problem that I see is that there needs to be a bit more edible bones. While you feed bone every day you do need to feed more that is edible. It is recommended that you feed at least 4 days with bones and 1 with organs.

They eat chicken bones, the ends of the beef ribs, the goat bones, and some of the smaller pig feet bones. If i give them 1-2 mice each a week, would that be enough bone in their diet? (once they start eating the whole mouse of course)

Are you sure that they are able to actually able to consume the beef, pork and goat bones?? My ferrets can only make dents in baby deer ribs, pork, beef and goat and all harder then that.
And yes, adding the whole mice would help.

And yes, adding the whole mice would help. They can eat the ends off of a beef rid. Even Bailey cant eat a whole one of those. They just chew of the softer parts of it. Usually they can eat all of the pork bones. They're pretty soft. Bailey can eat them all no problem. Sometimes there are hard ones they cant eat, but most of them they can. Goat bones are pretty small so they have no problem eating those. They eat what they can and then leave the harder parts.

Ok, since they can eat the pork, goat and beef ribs (or atleast part of them), you should be fine with the ammount that you feed. I'll PM Guili and get her over here, I think you may be ready to graduate now!!

yay thanks for helping me switch them. They got into a shelf, where i had the leftover bag of ferret kibble, and they wouldnt even touch it. They deffinetly seem to perfer their new and improved diet. Oh and i forgot to say i got them chicken feet too. They didnt have any yet, but that will add more bone to their diet. Ill get them live mice when i can, but Im hoping i can get them to eat pre killed mice, so i can buy some online. Theyre pretty expencive at the petstores around here.

Everything looks to be in order here. Yay! Time to graduate!!!!! Now there is one last thing I want you to do (and then I am moving this thread to the "newbie switch archive": If you havent already, it might be a good idea to start popping in to NaturalFerrets. I know forum is small right now, but that is because they are switching to the new forum from a yahoo! group. There are many many senior raw feeders on there and it would be wise to make use of their knowledge. I try and advise all my "completed switchers" to get on there and post a bit. I still want you to say on HF, but I want you to "broaden your horizons" by getting a bit of NaturalFerret's info as well. Sound good? www.NaturalFerrets.comYou'll probably run in to the Holistic Ferret Mentors on there. This is where THEY go to ask THEIR questions on natural diet (I do too). Let me know if you get any good info out of here. and....... Now that you've completed the switch, have had your feeding schedule reviewd, and been advised to check out NaturalFerrets, its time to retire this thread to the "newbie switch archive"! No one (yourself included) will be able to post in this thread anymore once its been moved to the archive. Please begin posting your diet-related questions in the "whole prey" "raw" or "general feeding questions and discussion" area. We encourage EVERYONE that is archived to continue posting. Feeding a natural diet is a learning PROCESS, there is much to learn after making the switch. We (your mentor and I) will run a detailed "check up" with you (via PM or email) at the 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and 1 year anniversary since "going natural" just to make sure all is going well and that you arent having any issues. Feel free to jump in and help to answer newbie questions. One of the ways you can learn is through teaching. We hope you stick around so that we can celebrate the 1 year anniversary of starting your baby on raw with you!
