That is very odd. When did he start eating the bedding, paper, poop, etc?

He's been eating the poop since we got him maybe a bit of bedding, but for 2-3 weeks he's been eating bedding and paper a lot!

So he was eating all this stuff BEFORE the switch to raw?
This is something I would really bring up with your vet, it could be a sign that he is in pain, or it could be a sign of something else. Regardless, if he keeps eating poop and bedding he's going to get sick. We've got to do something to make this stop.

He was eating the poop and probably some bedding here and there before the switch. His next appointment isn't for a month, but I'll see if maybe we can get in sooner.

I would definitly talk to the vet about this (if the vet trys to convince you he is doing this because of a raw diet, be sure to stress that this was occuring BEFORE the switch) in the mean time, moniter him, and try and keep him away from his poop and if needed, replace the bedding in his cage with something he wont be as apt to eat. Laxing a few times a week (with a petrolium free laxative) would probably be smart as well.

Whoa, sorry I wasn't around when you were posting earlier.
I would say there is something else going in like Giuli said. It could just be a fetish like dogs eating rocks but I doubt it is.. With his other problems I do think something else is up, maybe he has ulcers? Some animals just present the problems completely differently. It is possible that there isn't really anything wrong, like what was mentioned before maybe he wasn't fed well before and ate these things so he wouldn't feel hungry?
Try to get him to the vet ASAP

Ok I have been giving Chewie access to food all day and his weird snacking has calmed down. I don't know what was making him snack like that, but it's ok now.

I guess he's a unique ferret. Different ferrets have different needs, it's hard to even get mine to eat more then once a day.
He really needs more variety, atleast some beef and pork or rabbit, duck, turkey,ect.. I know you mostly just shop at wal-mart, they've got PLENTY of beef and pork, plus lamb, veal and turkey.
Once you've got him eating more variety he can graduate.

I know you are in the process of trying to re-home Chewie, but its important that both he (and Oliver) get a variety of meats in their diet (ideally atleast 3 types). Have you had any luck incorporating more variety into chewie and oliver's diets? Please be sure to update us and let us know. Post your information regarding Oliver in oliver's thread (in the newbie switch archive) and post your information regarding chewie here in this thread. I think chewie is ready to graduate, as long as he is getting atleast 3 types of meat. Please let us know asap. Thank you.

Oops sorry!!! I have managed to get Oliver and of course the lil pig Chewie to eat some cut up steak. Oliver won't eat a ton, but he'll nibble. They are also eating gizzards too, along with the heart and liver.

So they currently eat chicken parts and hunks of steak? Ideally I'd like to see them both eating one additional type of meat. How about pork? Its nice and fatty, high in protein, rich in taurine, and the best part of all is that its usually pretty inexpensive.

Ok. I'll get some pork tomorrow or Saturday and update you guys! Yep chicken and steak right now. I still have to bribe Ollie to eat some steak, but if I put a teeny bit of ferret lax or something tasty on or with it, he'll eat it.

Hopefully he will soon realize how yummy it is. Weezer used to stay as far away from rabbit pinkies as possible but now he will give them a taste, they've just got to get up the nerve to try it.

Did you get a chance to try the pork? How did it go? Once you get Oliver and Chewie eating 3 types of meat each week, then Chewie will be ready to graduate.
