Dang, I missed so much of this thread! But like said, it has been a long hard road and you have nearly go rid of the kibble, just keep moving forward . BTW, Have you tried a meat other then chicken? Some ferts just dont like it. Could you try something like minced beef? I usually wean rescue baby ferts on minced beef and havnt failed yet

If your'e using grinding kibble to make soup, soak the kibble in water (in the fridge) If you cover the kibble with water (and a little more water on top), the kibble will be mushy by morning/evening.

Duh you know when i did the switching i never even thought of soaking the kibble. You have been doing good with the chicken and sometimes it takes them a little longer. I would stay with a meat that ferrets could possibly get in the wild and personaly i see them taking down a chicken but not a cow. THat being said i do feed some beef and lamb and little bit of pork everyonce in a while.

Whisp is still taking small bites of the chicken kibble mix, and Angel too. My problem today is...my husband. He (for the past 2 days) has forgotten to put more chicken in their feeding cave while I am at work. And when he does put the chicken in the cave, he doesn't clean it out from the previous chickening, or remove the old yuk plate. I have preached and lectured the past two days on how you can't do that. Soooo, I am hoping today goes better and some of what I said actually set in. Here's to high hopes!!!

I wonder is your husband related to mine?? It would be nice if he would just feed them, even if sometimes he forgets to clean it out. I am glad to hear that the little girls are taking bites and hopefully soon they will be eating chunks. I know I know i am moving ahead of them here but i know they will get there.

I sure hope my husband isn't related to yours. We don't need anymore like mine running around out there. Too many crazies as it is. I think he did better today. The ferrets aren't gnawing at my ankles when I walk in the door, so that is a good sign. It looks like he fed them some chicken. I am going to be making more ground chicken and kibble tonight, but I am also going to add some of the thigh meat too, to switch it up a bit. Wish me sanity and luck!

Grrrrr.....spoke too soon. I've got problems.
Riven ate apple today (according to my husband), and then threw up. He looks ok to me now, but I will be keeping an eye on him. Riven is begs and steals fruit away from my kids (apparently). So, I also have to watch my kids and husband too around the fruit.
In the top level of the FN, there is a bunch of what I can only guess is thrown up chicken. It is chewed up and slimey looking...and everywhere. I don't have any idea who it could have been (maybe Riven), so I am going to have to keep all eyes on my guys to make sure everyone is eating and pooping ok. I am praying none of mine have an obstruction. I have already gone through that once this year. I need a break!

Sorry to hear about Riven. I hope that he is ok. Did the apple have skin on it that he ate? Dont really know if that makes a difference but it might??? I hope that there is no obstruction I know you need a break. From the sound of it the chicken you found on the top level sounds to me to be thrown up chicken. Keep an eye on them and see if you can catch all of them at some point going potty. Let me know whats going on, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

My husband says he hears them coughing after eating chicken from time to time, and the chicken slime had shards of bone in it. Can a ferret choke on bone, and throw up?

Well, today things seem to be buisness as usual. Everyone is eating and pooping, and pooping and pooping...just fine! I blended up a new mixture. This time I soaked the kibble in beef broth and microwaved it a few seconds to help the kibble absorb the broth. Then I blended it and added chicken breast and thigh meat. They love it! Raider even took to the liking of thigh meat, and stole the bone to strip the rest of the meat off. Change is good!

Whew I am happy to hear that everything is back to normal with your guys. Great that they are eating the thigh meat too now. I can picture him taking the bone to get to the rest of the meat
