Yes, we've seen that picture, but it was impossible to tell what was going on since it was so chewed up. -jennifer

OK everyone! I am not positive, but I am like 85% sure I know what happened to Kiwi's leg!
In my cage the hammocks are tied up with metal wires, and then wrapped around and covered up (well I thought they were) with fabric or just pushed into the wood floors in the cage.
It wasn't until a few days ago I had the top of the cage open, and was moving stuff around, and Kiwi was in a hammock on the 2nd floor. Well seeing me up there, she jumps from the hammock to the 3rd floor....thus showing me exactly how she may have cut herself!! The wires are along the edge that her leg may have scraped against it during one of her many jumps all over the cage!!
Now, I am still deciding what to do about this, and how to best cover these wires. Not too sure yet, in the meantime, nothing is on the 3rd floor that would make her want to go up there by jumping. Apple can't jump up there, so he's good!
I just need to fix a few things, and my cage will be 100% again!

It's good to find the problem . Just think of all the heart failure you could have avoided if only you had known! I ran into s similar situation where my 2 little girls squeezed through a cage door when I first got them. Little Miss "Fatty Pants" (AKA Kachina) got her butt stuck while escaping and snagged herself on the locking mechanism. She got a nasty scraping like cut, which left no signs of blood. When I found the cut, it was oozing and raw. My poor little Princess - SHe now has a scarred bald spot on he rump...that was years ago, and the skin was sufficiently damaged such that the fur never grew back I'm so glad Kiwi is doing better, and you can now fix the cage to prevent further problems. -jennifer

FOR WIRES (IF YOU DONT HAVE CHEWER"S) you can cover them on liquid rubber it comes in cans ther are 2 differnt types one with a activator you mix or other you heat It then just dip the wires in it and let it dry for thicker covering you dip and dry a few times . also you can use shrink tubing put it over the wire and use a heat gun (maybe a blow dryer on hi ?) or a lighter to shrink it to the sise of the wire , both you can get at hobby stores and think radio shack I know they carry the shrink tubing for wires . if you show a photo of the exposed wire I mite be able to help you better with a way to fix it cheaply

I will post soon. Also, I already tried those shower hooks, but they are too short and don't fit in my hardware cloth, I have 1/2" squares, so they are too small to fit through there, but I did try it first! holisticferret.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=cage&action=display&thread=742Thats my cage, the Side of Cage photo is where one hammock now is, I should take new photos with all the bedding in there. Maybe tonight so you all can see.

I should also add that it has completely healed up! I guess I just needed to clean it up for her, because I ended up not using the Bacitracin because she kept licking it all off.
The only thing left is her pink knee with some fur missing, hopefully by next shed it is back, and I think it will be! YAY!
