Hello (: I was wondering if you guys could recommend a good carpet cleaner. Something to disinfect and remove ferret messy stains would be awesome or separate recommendations is fine. I have blue carpet if that matters .__. Also, what would you recommend for a cage cleaner besides bleach ? I don't know if the bleach I am using is safe for ferrets because of the strong smell =X

I'd be interested in suggestions for carpet cleaners, myself. My guys have been not-so-great with the piddle pads out in the room :\ (they like to play with them, now that Hiko's come along, argh). As for cage cleaners, I use white vinger and water in a spray bottle, and besides my guys being fascinated with the jet of water shooting out and apparently *wanting* to get a faceful of vinegar water (much to my dismay, LOL, I spend half my cleaning time pushing ferts away) I like it as a cleaner

I bought a bissel little green machine a year ago and am in LOVE with it. It's small so when an "accident" (they're never actually accidents, are they?) happens I can clean it right away. I like the solvent that comes with it, but sometimes I just use the hot water and vinegar. I also use a dilute solution of white vinegar in water to clean the cage. It doesn't leave the streaky, soap residue that most other cleaning options leave behind and once it dries the smell is gone.

I like Nature's Miracle...it's an enzyme-based cleaner that takes out animal smells and stains great....I just pick up any solids I can, soak the area in the solution and take a rag to it a few minutes later. I have new gray/beige carpet and ugly orange 70's couches and it's never pulled the color out of either...it says it works well on hard surfaces too but since it's a little on the spendy side (if Im lucky I find it on sale for about $24 for 1.5 gallon mega-jug and that lasts me a few months) I save it for my fabric messes and stick with a vinegar solution for hard surfaces.

I have a hoover steam vac with clean surge. Works pretty good, I fill it up with hot water, some kind of carpet cleaner, a scoop of oxy clean and away I go. For stubborn stains I use the attachment and I've been able to get up every ferret poo stain and I have white/beige carpet.

I use a Hoover steam vac as well. I've found it always works great!

Woolite Pet+Oxygen. MY only complaint is that the odor of the spray itself is very strong. It clears away relatively quickly though. Shane has almost white carpets (beige) and despite several accidents having landed on the carpet, many of which were runny IBD diarrhea poops, you can't even tell! It works great!

In the rooms I have carpet I use Simple Solution. I buy the 1 gallon mega jug at PetSmart and have a spray bottle from the dollar store... I've used it on dark grey car interiors, my dark brown and light brown micro fiber couches bathroom throw rugs, mattresses....and I use it in my Hoover Hard floor cleaner because my house has terrazo in every room.

The problem with a lot of cleaners made for carpet cleaners is that they leave a (small) residue, which seems to make "messes" easier to cling to the carpet fibers. The BEST carpet cleaning solution that I've found is hot (I boil it) water. If cleaner is necessary, I use a vinegar / water solution. After using that, I will never go back HTH

Nor by the Nature's Miracle. The only problem with some carpets is water that hot can damage them, especially if they are more nylon based.

Maddie had an accident at my Bubba's one time and she told me not to worry about it, that she could bleach the carpet and you would never know. My first reactions was EEK! No bleach! But.... she was right... and it worked perfectly. Now, if I did that to my carpet... I would have to replace it!

I use a Bissel pet carpet cleaner, and it does have great pet spot cleaning attachments. It really works like a dream.
