Are you asking about if the surgery will cure the insulinoma? ciao

They use surgery to cure or to stave off adrenal....that's what the shots are for. They don't do surgery so much any more for insulinoma, they've found that they can't get all the nodules and that if often recurs very quickly after surgery. Some vets still do the surgery for insulinoma but it's getting rare. Most have found that pred controls it for as long if not longer than surgery. Adrenal, what you're giving the lupron shots for, is still often a surgery where the adrenal gland is removed by a ferret savy vet. Personally, I prefer to do the non invasive method unless my vet does a lot of adrenal surgeries. ciao

The vet in woodbirdge is a ferret specialist. He does adrenal surgery for about 500 and takes out the tumors for insulinoma for free. Monster has insulinoma, but no signs for adrenal. He did have thining on his tail a while back, but his fur coat got beter with the ulver meds. So I am kind of in the loop. If I don't get the surgery, I feel like I am not a good parent. The surgery can prolong the disease right? If they cut the bumps out, It can cease the signs for longer without need for pred. Adrenal surgery can come back, but what about the ferrets that get it and live longer. The reason why they pass is because of other diseases. I am prouble making no sense right now. These questions have been wrecking chaos in my mind for a while now. I don't know what to realy do to my boys. Surgery? No surgery? The vet is going to a seminar about a new shot that last 1-2 yrs for adrenal. He said it'll cost you 100-200 but saves in the long run. I'll look up pro's and con's of adrenal surgery, but what is the best condition for the ferret to be for the surgery? Dingo's thin, has liver proublems, and is on 5 different meds.

Personally I don't think he sounds like a good surgery candidate and I don't recommend surgery for insulinoma, it will reoccur and quickly guarenteed and would be pretty hard on him. Better to just use pred and regular feedings.

I'm with goingpostal. Dingo doesn't sound like a good candidate for surgery. I don't know his age (sorry, I"m sure that you mentioned it somewhere but I can't remember). With just the information you gave here, and what I can remember from his history I wouldn't ever subject him to an anesthetic if he was mine. It's just my opinion of course. I've had a couple of students who's ferrets lived good long lives eating a raw diet, while supplementing with kibble and pred. ciao

That is what I thought about dingo as well. He's roughly 5-6 years of age. But I kept playing in my head that I was being lazy and didn't want to spend the money for his surgery. After setting up my webcam, I have noticed dingo does get up and eat while I'm gone. He also wanders more than he has's before ulcer/liver/and lupron injections. I also figured out who's pooping in the naughty places..Who likes to play more. And whoo keeps getting into my clean cloths. What is the main cause for the liver to be elivated? Anything due to adrenal, or insulinoma? -------------------------------- Monster is doing alright so far. He seems to have more energy, but i try to keep an eye on him more so now. When one of yours was diagnosed with insulinoma, Did you see a difference in how he acted vs how he use to act? He seems more lively now. He tries to play, but everyone is a little "fast" for him. He use to be realy relaxed, now he's slow, but playfull.

Howdy again, I sent in the paperwork of dingo to the vet in woodbridge. Monsters glucose was 91 with pred. Yay!!! Dingo's was 70. Dingo's liver has gone down thank goodness. I got money in... Bad news- Jack has slimmy snot like poops, threw mouse, and tried to poop three times with no poop. I gave him hair ball stuff, and walla poops. I don't have the funds to take him unless it is an absolute emergency so I will be keeping an eye on him. Wish me luck.

Those sound like they could be hairballs being passed in his stool. During shedding season, mine will sometimes have poops that look a little like slugs Time for the pumpkin in soupies!

Their is like a shortage of pumpkin here. XD I've tried like two walmarts, and three food lions and STILL can't find any.
Poops are still kind of loose, but things are looking better.
Monster has me worried yet again. I noticed a patch of fur on his hips missing. Adrenal..or shedding. He has a bald spot. SO i shall be watching his hair loss.
When does shedding stop?

If you're seeing bare skin, it's unlikely to be a shed. Mine usually only shed heavily for about a month at the most.

Monster's hairloss is about the same so I am going to give it a few weeks to figure it out before taking him for shots. Poor boy. I'll take him with dingo to get his first shot. I have 60 saved so far + whatever I get in my next paycheck, and one other paycheck.
Monster has been playing more, and acting pretty normal.
Dingo played again. It was rough, but he acualy climbed ontop of one of the other guys and chomped down. I forgot which one it was, but the other fuzzy looked like he wasn't quite enjoying dingo. Things seem to be looking up for him atleast.
