I can't wait to get a FN 142. I had it picked out before i even got my ferrets. Right now i have a Marshall Mansion and it's big, but having no full 2nd level doesn't cut it for me. Enjoy your new cage!
Peace, Cherry

I LOVE it! ..For Stewart it will take awhile for him to adjust. However I think he'll be much happier in there when he gets his little sister. Because now, I think it's like being alone in a giant mansion. Hah, I know how he is feeling and I'm taking him out playing with him more because it must feel even lonelier being in such a big cage. I'm pretty sure it'll be O.K. once he has a little friend in there to play with. :3 I do have a question because I'm having a bit of trouble .."Designing" I guess, The cage. We don't have ramp covers in there yet, I've put sock over them right now... Pretty nifty if I do say so myself, Lol. ;D -And I've got towels, a blanket and a couple shirts on the mats for comfortableness. The litter box is what I'm having trouble with.. I waited till he found his 'spot'..But it seems like he picked all the corners.. @:\ I know I'll have to get another litter box, Will just that help him stop 'going' everywhere? I'd like it if he just used the litter box on the bottom level, But it's no biggie putting another litter box on the top I suppose.
..I also need to buy poor toys, and some hanging tubes, and hanging toys, and More hammocks. Does anybody have any advice for all this? I'm planning on making the ramp covers. But buying all the toys, and things from Ferret.com.
I'd jsut like to nkow what you've all done with your cages.. So I can get some.. Inspiration?
Thanks you All!!

I have a FN 143. The bottom level has a rubbermaid-container litterbox that takes up half the tray, underneath the shelf. The boys are great at using it, but I keep blankets and beds in all the corners just as reminders. The easiest way to block off a corner I've found is to just thread the blanket through the bars to keep it in place.
The middle level doesn't have ramps or shelves... just layers of hammocks. Sometimes when the boys are in a hurry, they skip the hammocks entirely and just climb the bars.
Top level is for dining. Two igloos for eating and stashing in, lock-on crocks for water and dry food. Of course I still find chicken chunks hidden in hammocks, but not nearly as much as I used to.
(Trouble lives alone in a tub-style super pet cage, which I think is very much her preference.)
My FN is torn apart for laundry day right now, but I'll take new pictures when it's together again. We also have a ton of drainage pipe left over from thwarting Hocus's playpen escapes, so I have plans for zip-tying that around one level.
You will have lots of fun fixing up the FN!

I started out with the FN 141 Then I bought the add on to make it a FN 142(not the bast pic) Then when I agreed to foster, I got the cage that came with the ferrets. (which the owner never really used as she allowed them free range) I am constantly changing it to whatever my ferrets seem to want more of (they love hanging tubes) or if I need to block off corners with food dishes or bedding to remind them where the litter box is.

I have my litter box under the shelf on the first level and the boys worked it out for themselves. The second level of for feeding and sleeping (although there is also bedding on the bottom level). I have water on both levels.
Just pick a spot and he should be able to figure it out. Put some of his poop in there like when you first started litter training and he should associate it with a potty area. Goodluck!

For now, try shutting the levels off. That way, he gets used to a different space, and when he recognizes where he needs to go to potty, open it up. You may still wind up putting in a second box, but try for the one for now.

So, I am gonna try get my hands on that thing you've got there, He'll for sure, Well, I think anyway, Make the box more often in his new cage with that. ;D Weeelll, I am writing down a wish list of everything Stewart and the new Arrival needs. And when we go up to Ohio for the Buckeye Bash I'm sure they will have lots a vendors with the things we want. ;D
I can't wait!.. Gosh, I'm so excited. >o< I'll definitely be looking forward to the pictures you have Kerit. As soon as I get everything straightened up and out, I'll post pictures of the finished result! Thanks for all your Help!!!

A lot of the ferrets do not like the corners litter boxes and will not be accurate in them. The high back litter boxes do work much better. You can see in the second pic I have one on each level and stuff in all the corners. The 3rd pic, I only have one in the bottom- since the foster kids do their sleeping up top.
Can't wait to see the pic's.

I can't wait to see pics, too! When I ordered my FN 142 I was SOOOO excited! I managed to put it together myself in under two hours- under 1 1/2 if you don't count me dragging all the individual pieces down the stairs. For mine, I've always had two litter boxes because I'd hate to have to run 4 stories just to get to the bathroom, but my two never used the box on the top level so I just took it out and neither has noticed. I think it really helped that the one who is HORRIBLE with the litter box (*cough* Jasper *cough*) was on the bottom of the FN before he was allowed to have the full cage with Tootsie.

Here's one of my rubbermaid litterbox: And the middle hammock level: To get all the hammocks to overlap right, I use a short length of small chain hung from the level's "ceiling" and then clip the middle straps to it... if that makes sense. Should have taken a picture of that. I'm working on a three-story cage cover to make the whole thing a little prettier. Then I can show off whole-cage shots! It's not very impressive looking against an old white wall next to an old boxy furnace right now.
