I'm ordering from rodent pro, and getting a rabbit. When I'm ..ehem, cutting off limbs and whatnot from the body.. Is it similar to the chicken?
And.. How easy is it? Should I do it while still frozen?
..It'll be intact I assume.. And have that cute little rabbit face.. OMG.. What do I do with the head??
..help.

I partially thaw and then cut the baby rabbits in half ( I remove the stomach and intestines...my guys just leave it all over the place anyway) the older ones in a couple more pieces. I feed the heads whole, ears and brains are a delicacy (sorry)...just the way it's done here....there is no cute, only food. ciao

I stupidly forgot about the guts, I don't mind them if the animal is tiny (Mice and Rats) But..Rabbits are different. So, Uhmm...Yeah, I don't think he needs rabbit..Plenty of other choices, Right? Hehh

Ha Yeah, but.. he won't know Ha. x3 Haha, Good point. But, I don't think my store sells rabbit at all. I do have a hunter friend though, He deals with rabbit all the time.. Maybe..just maybe, the hunter could do all the dirty work. But, I don't know if I could feed the head to him..whole. oO The hunter could put the brains in a separate container, Than I could feed it like that. Hummm. x3

Omg, Totally But, We're going to actually not get rabbit. If our hunter friend ever catches a rabbit, He'll just give us the stuff he and his family don't eat. ;3

It's either that, or pay $20.00 a kilo for preskinned/cleaned rabbit . And I'm a tough girl- I was raised on a farm! . Yeah, right- like 40 flipping years ago!!!

Ladies....ladies, please don't skin the rabbit, it will get cold ....let the ferrets do it. They're more than up to the task. My guys eat the whole rabbit...skin, fur, ears, tails...feet, everything. Just cut the rabbit in half (or more pieces if they're big rabbits) and give them to the ferrets. It's really simple and very easy to do. Trust me ciao

Hare Today has ground rabbit, with fur and all ground up together for $3.09/lb, if you wanted to try that out. For me, when I breed rabbits or find a good source of them, I'm just going to feed them whole. Let the fuzzies to all the hard work. How big of a rabbit do four ferrets need to make a meal?

My four eat about 1-2oz per meal, so 4-8 oz for 4 of them. And I'm in Canada so I can't order from places like Hare Today, or Rodent Pro. Besides, the spoiled little sods won't eat ground anymore . Oh- I skinned and gutted my first rabbit today! Once I got rid of the head, it was easy . Whole process took me about 10 minutes. With more practice, I'll get a lot faster!

Sorry, I now this is a couple weeks old but I figured I'd post anyway.
Provided the rabbit is a female I can have a rabbit skinned and gutted in about three minutes.. The males take extra time because you've gotta be careful around the boy parts.
It is MUCH easier when the rabbit is hanging by it's back feet, at the rabbitry we use little rope nooses around the back feet and hang them by those. Since I know how to do that I end up only paying about $.30--$.40 a pound for the rabbits I buy for the ferrets.
