So, I have some exciting news:) Today I brought home some fresh salmon for the first time since I switched the kids to raw. The kids that were up could smell it and you could see their little noses twitching. I thought, I can't hurt to see if the willl eat it, so I gave them a tiny piece. They immediately started to fight over who was going to get to it first so I put quite a few chunks in the cage. All of the chunks were gone within 5 minutes!!! Everyone but Liberty (who just wasn't hungry) ate quite a bit of salmon on their own!

So far they eat chicken, duck and turkey. Salmon makes meat 4, it just wont be an everyday thing. They didn't even hesitate trying it, which made me very happy!

Your guys are doing fantastic. That's great. My guys like salmon too but they don't like smelts (which come in their altogether ), the salmon was prepared It would stand to reason they didn't like the cheaper fish Have you tried pork. It seems to be well received too, and is easily available and unlike salmon not hugely expensive. How's the bigger chunks going? Keep up the great work, I'm really proud of how far you and your guys have come. Keep me updated ciao

They are down to the ground raw straight from the tube and eating it just fine. The salmon was in 1/2inch-3/4inch chunks, so I was shocked they ate as much as they did.
Is pork that safe? I've heard of other freezing it for months before they give it to their fur kids and wasn't quite sure.

Pork is that other white meat No it's been safe for years, the only stuff you have to worry about is free range pork or boar. If you feed those then you should probably feeze it for 3 weeks ( I believe that's the length of time to kill trych, the parasite No, pork is good, so is lamb (least I have a couple of my guys who are really fond of that), some people also feed goat...accessibility becomes the issue there. No, pork is perfectly safe...safer than fresh salmon go figure. That's great, your guys are raw feeding all the way....straight off the shute no doctoring....you have done really well. Congratulations I will talk at you later. Keep me posted ciao

It's been a while since I checked in so I just wanted to stop by and say that they are doing great! Liberty is finally at a weight that is comparable to the others so I am over joyed that my old lady isn't wasting away one me:) They are eating chunks of what we eat for dinner, but they hoard more than they eat when it is chunked. I gave them a shoe box with the side cut out so hopefully they will use that instead of the back of the cage

I'm glad to hear that everything is progressing well Stashing...the annoying but normal practice that ferrets are supreme at I really wish I could find a way to stop it but it seems to be one of the things that I fall way short on I managed to interupt a mad dashing, Thor who was charging by with a chunk of chicken neck in his mouth...I hadn't fed neck in too long.... it was gross but he seemed to think that his prize was worth fighting for....bleck!! So don't feel too badly...it's ingrained deeply into their little psychies. I'm guessing that your guys are still munching heavily on soupy?? or have they progressed to mostly ground with chunky stuff on the side? Keep up the great work, I will check back with you. Are you happy with their progress? Where would you like this to go from here? ciao

That is fantastic. Have you tried them on any boned meats? or are their chunked meats still too small to experiment in that direction? You're guys are doing really well and they eat a good variety too. That is so great....great job guys...keep in touch ciao

Just checking in to let you know the furkids are all wonderful, healthy, and full of surprises Everyone is eating plenty of whole ground. School is almost out, so mius the week I will be in Boston, I will have lots of one on one time with them. The same personw ho watched them for us when we visited my dad is watching them again so he understand how it works Bella is still nippy so I hope to take advantage of our time together to get her to realize people are generally good and biting is bad

That's great that your guys are doing so well I'm proud of your progress. You've done really fantastic with your guys. It's great to have someone you trust look after your furbabies too. Are you thinking of working them toward whole meats or are you content at where they are. Could you give me a bit of an update as to what their diet looks like now? When I last heard from you it was a well balanced ground diet. Biters...they're such a challenge...I presently have one turned in a month or so ago, Mr Squiggly. He seems to think that all raw meat (ankles, toes and fingers too ) is a good thing He's such a naughty boy and he stole my heart within minutes. He's so starved for lovins but he just hasn't a clue on how to get them. I don't think anyone ever snuggled him as a kit (actually I think he's been hit or at least kicked). He's about 18 months old. If he wants your attention he bites you. If he wants you to play with him...he bites, at least he doesn't duck any more when you move your hands toward him. I did discover (and it wasn't really hard when you know what you're looking for)that he's profoundly deaf. He can hear nothing poor wee mite. I wish you luck with Bella. I have managed to get Lady "B" to be less of a biter and I can take her into public places now but I still don't trust her. She gets that hard look in her eyes and you know you're going to get nailed. Right now Mr. Squiggly doesn't even get that he just bites you. He starts to vibrate and you know that he's going to bite. Touch bases and let me know where you want to go from here. ciao

Well over the past few weeks not a whole lot has changed. We tried rabbit and they HATED IT. It was the whole rabbit with fur so I think it may have been too dry for them. The took it off of the food dish so te dish would be empty and I would give them something else, it was cute! Constantine's weight has really leveled out since bringing the white kids home He is no longer chubby and has more energy than when he was a kit! I went out of town for 6 days to Boston (which was amazing) and a friend watched the kids. Gus must have been depressed because all he did while I was gone was eat! He's easily doubled his weight!! I hope now that I am home he snapps out of it and geta little more active. I just got a new digital camera so pictures should follow ion a few days

Beautiful pics, your guys are looking great I'm sorry that rabbit didn't go over too well. Have they tried whole prey before or was this their first crack at dealing with fur? I know that sometimes you have to start them...to show them that there is indeed dinner under all that fur There has been a lot of conversation about how much everyone's furbabies have been stacking on the weight this winter. Maybe, your little one isn't any different Anyway, now that mummy's back home maybe he won't resort to doing nothing but eating and sleeping Let me know where you're guys are at with their diet and what different meats they're willing to eat. Talk at you later. The pics are really beautiful. You're doing great with your little ones. ciao
