Well, my problem is this. I put the two wings out this morning (each cut into 3 pieces). I came home at 4 and the meat was pretty much gone...bone remains. I cut up two more wings since 4 o'clock, but those have hardly been touched. This just doesn't seem like enough to eat to me, and I am not sure what to do.

I would just keep doing what you are doing (with the wings) but throw in some boneless beef chunks or pork chunks or even chicken chunks as some extra food.
Right now Samson is kind of finicky and he's learning how to eat the wing (he even chewed some of the bone off) but he's just not eating ENOUGH. So I also toss him some "easier" foods like boneless chunks and that seems to help. I would do this for now. Just dont give SO much bonless chunks that they arent interested in the wing. And make the chunks as big as possible (palm sized, if you can) so that they do have to work at it to chew and eat it.

Mine have these spurts where they go a few days with eatting very little and then they will eat alot. i just put dinner in the cage after their night time run around 30 mins ago and out of the 12 mice i put in the cage there are still 10 whole ones and the other two are missing their heads but that thats it. Sometimes they just dont really eat. See how they do tomorrow. And like giuli said sometimes you just need to give them something lazy to eat. DO they eat egg on its own. sometimes when mine dont eat i mix up the egg for them add some olive oil and put small pieces of chicken breast into it and they eat this with no problems.

Oh yeah! Jas is right! Sometimes my guys do that whole "no eating" thing too. Most days they eat just fine, but every now and then they are just "meh" when it comes to food. I've heard several people say that, so I assume its pretty normal.

Let us know how they are eating today.
I think of your babies as much as i do of mine.
(BTW mine just finished their mice from dinner last night--they didnt get a different breakfast cause they still had them laying around)

Well, today I put out my normal two wings cut up into thirds and also a hand full of chicken chunks. All but the bones are gone, so I might just put chicken chunks out for the rest of the evening instead of wasting a wing they won't fully eat. No, I haven't tried whole egg yet. I may do that soon. I always think mine are having a lazy day when it comes to food. Especially Whisp, who I think may be a traumma case anyway. By the way, Buzzonesbirdie, I will take a stab in the dark and assume you don't do dinners for neighbors considering what is stashed in your fridge!

Did you notice if they chewed on the bones at all? Ferrets will leave SOME bone, but they should be eating the majority of it You are close! I can feel it! How is the new addiiton doing (oh and I see you named her!)

Yeah, the bone is gnawed on...just the larger bones remain intact. I find bone in poo every now and then too (not that I am digging through it...just what I find on top, or if I accidentally squish it in the paper towel when I pick it up).
Whisp is still being syring fed. She prefers it this way...lazy girl! If she gets a chunk of soft kibble, she will take it into her mouth and run with it. Then she will drop it and leave. She will not eat chunks at all. She is deathly scared of anything in her face. I will go to wipe the duk soup off her fur after we are done (syring feeding is messy stuff) and she flips out. She has a torn right ear (from the previous owner) so I don't know if she was traumatized by a dog, cat or kid at one time and so has trust issues? I weigh her daily to make sure she isn't losing weight. So far, she isn't. Today I am adding pulverized kibble to the duk soup to start switching her to the kibble. I just wish she would start eating on her own!

Yes, it's got to be rough nursing her back to health, but it will get better. God bless you for doing that! That poor thing! She will have a better life now that she's with you, Im sure OKay, so here is one thing I want to be sure of before we progress your OTHER ferrets further in the diet switch. I want to be sure that they are ALL eating bone. Is there anyway to moniter them, seperate them, or find this out?

Well if you can watch them to see if they are each eating bone, you wont have to seperate them

Good thing! For one thing, I don't have 9 cages. And another thing...I may be patient, but that can only strech so far!

mine leave the big bones laying around too but you can see where they chewed the bottoms and got alot of the marrow out. I cook dinner for others( we have two fridges the one freezer is ferrets only LOL)
What kind of cage do you have ??
I would keep a list with the ferrets names on it close to the cage and when you see one chewing on the bone put a check mark next to its name. This might help you out with keeping track of who is eating bone.
And i agree with Giuli God bless you for taking in the little sweetheart you are giving her a better life.

Yeah you dont have to seperate each of them into a different cage lol. You could put one in a seperate cage each day and then mark if they ate the bone or not (just a thought). So like Harley in the "observation cage" one day, Riven in the "Observation cage" the next day, etc, etc. Make sense? of course if you can spy on them and catch them eating bone then you dont have to put them in an "observation cage"

Ok, I've got a new problem. None of the stores around me sell any other organs other than liver (unless you count beef tounge, and who eats that??? ) What do I do??? Also, Whisp is eating from a spoon or syringe, and it is very messy. It dribbles all down the front of her in feeding. When I go to wipe it off her face, she flips out. She does not like towels, rags, napkins...ect coming toward her or rubbing around her mouth. She also seems to chew like she has something stuck to the roof of her mouth. It's just soupy duk soup. It can't stick. I have checked her mouth...no sores or red area, but it does seem like the little teeth in the bottom front of her mouth are missing...at least some of them are. Any ideas of what could be wrong. This may be why she isn't eating kibble...some sensitivity in the mouth? And if so...how can I treat???
