Never mind. I ran out of chicken (apparently). My husband never tells me these things in time for me to run to the store on my way home to pick some up. Men!
Any who, I had to resort to the newly thawed wingettes coated in kibble tonight. 'Topher snatched one, and ran off with it. I think I can hear him eating it in a hidey hole. I am guessing this is a good sign for the ferret...bad sign for me who now has to search and find little "ferret treats" hidden around my house. This is why you have feeding cages.....I was just hoping my ferrets would be hygenicly sound. Guess I should keep dreaming!

'Topher is chowing down...I think bone and all. And he was supposed to be one of the more difficult ones. He is (I think) the oldest, and he is one of two that have chipped/filed down front canines. Angel (also with chipped/filed teeth) has also been spotted munching the wingettes. Yay!!!

eeewwww! Just heard bone crunching. It does sound a lot like kibble, but the only difference is I know it isn't! I'm glad you got your internet back up. Does that mean you are available this weekend?

The changes are coming! For whatever reason, Angel (my normally pretty docile girl) is a complete spaz tonight. She is taking on our feet and our cats. If meat is supposed to increase energy, well, it is doing it's job. She is crazy! ........now she's chasing after flies and a moth that snuck into our house while letting a cat out! She is absolutely mad!!!!

This morning I gave them chicken wingettes without a coating of kibble. They have been fighting over them off and on all morning, and have actually stripped one of yesterday's chicken wings down to the bone. I belive all of them are eating some off the wingettes now. Sooo....maybe....no more kibble?

Ah just a note to let you know what the next steps are in the switch:
1. Getting ALL of your ferrets eating bone 2. Getting ALL of your ferrets eating organ meat (so that they are eating meat/bone/organ) 3. Adding new foods to their diet (like beef, pork, turkey, lamb, etc) 4. Having your feeding schedule reviewd 5. Your switching thread gets archived and you graduate!!! However we encourage you to stick around and keep posting your questions in the other nutrition sections.

Some of mine have already tried chicken livers. It is the only organ meat I could find. The baby went to town with that. I will try again on Monday with the organ meat...once a week, right?

Yes, once a week. Preferably 1 liver per ferret. On organ meat day you can also feed heart and gizzard (as much as theyll eat of these two foods). I like to also feed an egg on organ meat day. I let two ferret split 1 egg. I mix up the yolk and the white and I sprinkle crushed eggshell on top.
Some good organs (if you can find them-----try local ethnic markets) include:
Kidney Pancreas Spleen Lung
But if you can find these its okay to just offer liver, gizzard, and heart (even though liver is technically the only organ out of the grouping.)
