So I think Koda and Kenai's naming story is kind of funny, so I wondered how everyone else picked their ferrets' names? Koda was a combination of things. I watched the movie Beast Master (my profile pic lol) and fell in love with Kodo and Podo and remembered all of the times I asked for a ferret as a kid. Then I saw them in the pet store...found this forum...that is really how it all started! haha Anyways, when I first watched the movie I heard Koda and Poda instead of Kodo/Podo! I loved it! On top of that, when I got Koda his personality was very much like little Koda in Brother Bear. So his name was inspired by a combination of Beast Master, and Brother Bear. (I LOVE that move by the way! . Anyways, for my second ferret (Kenai) I wanted to stick with something Alaskan for a male (or Stella Luna for a female - I still plan on eventually having a Stella Luna!) and I thought the name Sitka would be nice if I got another male. Well Kenai came home and his name was just Kenai, Sitka fit too, but sometimes you just know the right name, and Kenai was it. I honestly could never remember the name of the older bear in the movie Brother Bear, and I thought Kenai was one of the older brothers (the human ones). Well turns out it was the brother! It is soo perfect! I love it! So I have my little Brother Bears, Koda and Kenai! So, how did your ferrets get their names?

Sinnead, Emily, Zeus and Athena came with their names, and were used to them. Boris, because it just seemed to suit him. With Vincent, we were looking for an "elegant" name for an elegant gentleman ferret, and it works for him Lucrezia is named for Lucrezia Borgia, because she tried to "kill" all the staff at the pet store. That, and the first time I picked her up, she looked at me, and lunged for my nose Willow, because she reminded me of a willow tree in a high wind, she trembled SO much from fear. Suki, I was waiting to fill in the paper work for her, while talking to a staff member there. Suki was giving me kisses non-stop, and the clerk referred to her as a "sookie girl"(suckie girl), and she immediately looked up at the clerk! So, Suki

When I first became a ferrent, I had originally picked out a singleton, a little cinnamon boy. However, my mom had fallen in love with a standard sable girl, and I bought her as a "present" for her. I named my boy Yew, because I was constantly saying "hey, you, stop that!" the first week I had him, and I thought it was clever *headdesk*. The little girl my mom named Pixie, because spayed female=sprite=pixie Through a chain of events, my mom relinquished Miss Pix into my care, and she became my #1 girl. However, Yew passed away right before his third birthday, and I subsequently introduced another little boy (chocolate hooded) to Pixie to help with her depression. On the car ride home, I looked at him, and named him Yogi (I used to have gp's and they loved those Yogi treats, even though the d**n things aren't the best for 'em, that's why that name was so easy to come up with, I think). It seemed to fit (it also means 'master of oneself' which I kinda really adore). Next, because Pixie couldn't keep up with a kit's energy by herself, I introduced another little girl. She was named Sian (meaning "god's gracious gift"), because everything just clicked into place with her; things felt whole again, like they hadn't ever since Yew died. I finally had my business. Fast forward two years, and I see a CL ad for a ferret, which I respond to. I bring home the two year old silver, and name him Hiko, because in Inuit it means "ice" and in Japanese it means "boy". Perfect. (of course, name meanings come from internet scouring, so :\ , but I still love the ones I picked, LOL!)

God, I know. Though after losing Yew, I realized I'd never keep just a pair again (I told myself 3. Always three. And then .... ) Ferret math, it just sneaks up on you at the most unexpected time, apparently, ahahahaha

Rascal - Rascal is a rehome, and was originally mine and my brothers. We got him, and did not know his name until the day he came home (only I was home at the time). We were trying to think of a name for him, because he needed an awesome name. The person brought him over, and introduced him as Rascal, and I knew it was the perfect name. Called my brother, and he agreed.
Renegade and Rogue - They are also rehomes, and their original names were Gridd and Nyx, respectively. I wanted them to go with Rascal (my dogs name is Rosey) so I decided it had to start with R. My friends actually gave me the name ideas.
Harley - She came from the rescue, and her name was Harley already (well, Harley #3 to be exact). She was responsive to her name, so I could not be bothered to change it.

Dakota - I just liked the name and it fit her; I cannot imagine her anything but Dakota. Dancer (who has recently went to the bridge) - I rescued him right before Christmas at a abusive pet co. That pet co got countless charges of abuse and neglect and had a mandatory shut down and seizure of their animals just couple weeks after I got Dancer out of there. He was so sick and lucky to be alive, it was a miracle he made it out of his situation, I was his Christmas miracle and he was mine... so I went with the Christmas theme. I named him after Santa's reindeer - Dancer. It was so fitting for him!! Once I got him out of his shell, he was such a happy spirit and full of weasel war dances all the time! NB's Tipsy Absinthe - He was a 21st birthday present to myself! So of course I had to go with the alcohol theme I wanted a name that no one else had, it was so hard to find a male alcohol theme that was different. So I choose to call him Tipsy... Still wasn't unique enough especially for a "show ferret" so my friend suggested Absinthe (a really powerful and crazy alcohol lol)...... well it was unique and different and Tipsy Absinthe went together well! GFX's Sin City Strip Teaser - I wanted to go with the las Vegas theme as her mom, grandmas, ect.... all have Vegas show names. My friend helped me think of names for her, she thought of Sin City instead of "las vegas". I thought vegas is big on crazy and wild things! lots of "ladies" "strippers" and such, so I thought how cute would Strip Teaser be?? I had to think of something to call her for short, and couldn't think of any name that I liked or seemed fitting. I always wanted a black sable jill and said I would call her Hailey...... So Hailey is what I call her It kinda fits her registered show name... as Strip Teaser is a "profession"... and the stripper has to have some sort of name she goes by! This Strippers name happens to be Hailey

Izzy was a pressent from my best friends / at the time roommates. I was racking my brain trying to think of a good name all night. Kayla suggested Isabelle... aka Izzy and I immeadiatly knew that was it! IT suits her! Kayla later confessed she got the idea from Grey's Anatomy. Murtagh came with his name, Murtagh Ale, from the breeder. From the Eragon books

I wouldn't even know where to begin . All the little furbabies that come in here get new names. Sometimes being overwhelmed and over run with rescues (Attila, Ghenghis, Napoleon). Often it involves personalities that bloom....(Lady Gwen, became Lady Morgana Le Fert, who in the end became Lady "B" Itchy). Shazam and Houdini were rescued on Halloween. Mayhem, Maximus Hi-jinx (later became Mad Max) and Mischief were turned in because they were being too big of a pain on the sail boat they were living on. Thor, Odin and Loki were turned in during a thunderstorm (they were wild kids too who felt the world revolved around them ). Aremis, Athos, Porthos (Porthos also had a crazy peglegged walk due to a hip injury that he got when his previous owner threw him, probably against a wall) were all turned in about the same time when my son was studying the 3 musketeers. There is no rhyme or reason, just whatever is going on here when they come through the door Boris and Natasha got their names from some movie that my son was watching and he said that their personalities reminded him of the bumbling spies. That's just some of the brats names that have come though here ciao

Lets See!! Lelloo came from the moe movie the 5th element. She's the girl that kicks alein butt! Jack came from a person on here. Jack is your normal verge joe name for a averge joe weasel. He's the ferret you read about in text books, happy, fat, fun-go, loving, etc. Monster came with his name. He is sooo not a monster but a lover of woman's breasticles. XD He loves to sit in low cut shirts. Perv old man.. Ripply came with her name. She's another one of my favorit characters off a movie called alein. But this ripply is rather shy, loving, and careing like the ripply in the second movie with the little girl. Dakota's name stayed. She's nick named koda by my nephew. I thought of how dakota is a sled dog husky name and she's silver, grey like your typical sled dog. Pixie is named after those pesky little fairy creatures that try to play mean pranks. Dub her full name-> Pixie Demon Dingo was going to have a name change but none of the names I looked at matched him. He's a old man that would rather you not play wth him and shows an almost bashfullness if another ferret catchs him playing with the human. Bear & Swiper were like so a match made in heaven. Bear is huge, cute, and looks like a sun bear. Swiper who I had to find out was a girl for the lady is such a little evil sprite. My nephew always recites, "swipper no swipping! " when she trys to bite his feet. Tulia. She came to me as a suprise. I named her after an anime character from a anime who was sweet, lost, curious, but also had a sense of she can stand up for herself. Tulia snuggled in my lap and hissed at other ferrets. She also has been eating raw over kibble the last few weeks. Now that she's settled in, She no longer gets picked on and stands her ground against pixie's abuse.

For my first two, I wanted names that went together. My family suggested hundreds of different pairs (my mother really wanted me to call them Lucy and Ethel ). At first I was going to name them after drinks but then I got the idea of fruit stuck in my head. So I just had to figure out which two fruits I wanted. My family thinks it's incredibly stupid for them to have fruit names after I told them that ferrets should never been fed fruit among other things and my mother insists Mango is a boy name. Tonks got her name because I was reading through Harry Potter for the 20th time and I always loved Tonks. She had such a bright personality and it reminded me of a ferret. Plus I just thought it was a neat name.

I love naming pets! If there was a business for it, I'd join it ;]!
Oliver got his name from the movie Oliver and Company which was my favorite movie for years when I was a kid. It took my around two days to name Oliver in which I toyed with the name Roscoe and Milo, but Oliver just fit better.
Chewie (or Chubauka) came with his name. I did think about changing it, but Chewie fit him quite well. In the time I had him I only called him Chubauka the 2nd day and it was just weird since Chewie sounded a lot better for him.
Marley came with the name Breeze, which I didn't mind and kept for a couple months. I called her Bree, too. Then when we were moving to Alberta (5 day drive) her craziness came out more since she hated the traveling cage and I named her Marley after the dog on Marley and Me! It fit her personality a lot better, because when you think of a Breeze you think of calm. Marley was anything, but calm, lol!

I wanted an angora for years and I am also a medical geek. So when I adopted a male angora from the shelter I had to name him Trichobezoar which is the medical term for a hairball. I call him Bezoar for short or sometimes Bizarre cus he is BillyBob just looked like a BillyBob and I have always named my pets such weird names that I thought it would trip everybody out if I named one something so ordinary. Alitasha is African for "may I always find you my precious", which I thought was beautiful and she is a beautiful girl. I think it is very fitting because I swear she is one of my previous ferrets reincarnated. Her middle name is Kachina which means beautiful dancer. Nothing is quite as beautiful when she is happy and dancing around. I love to see her so happy after such a hard start in life. Unagi because one, it is fun to say and two, it means eel and ferrets have an eel-like body. One of my other favorite names of one of my ferrets that has passed was Canaliculi Sumehra. Canaliculi is the medical term meaning little tunnels, like the little tunnels in your bones. Again medical geek Then Sumerha is African for beautiful face, which she definately had. I also had Xja Xja (said like Zsa Zsa Gabore), Georgio Francis Francua, Shikaca Guano (big white bat poop), Mimi Siku (cat pee, and boy did she live up to that name), Nachoda Sacajawea, and Tadamichi Ota

Fiddler and Shiloh were our first ones. When it was known that hubby did not want to name them Kodo and Podo, we each named one. Since hubby only really initially wanted to get Fiddler and I talked him into getting his cage mate also, he named Fiddler, and I named Shiloh. Hubby says that he named him Fiddler because he 'fiddled' with stuff, not to be mistaken with a person who plays a fiddle. lol. Shiloh came from Repo! The Genetic Opera, a movie I like. The main character is named Shiloh. She's a seventeen year old spoiled girl. I knew Shiloh would be spoiled and probably be pretty bitchy. She hasn't proven me wrong yet. So, Shiloh it was. Oz came next. He was a tiny ferret, as he was only an 8 week old baby. So, we gave him a little name to go with the little ferret. Little did we know, he'd be a big old fluffer, so the name now is almost a comical contradiction. And then, we got Hiro. At the time, Hubby and I discovered reruns of Heroes, and so our favorite character was Hiro Nakamura, who in the show has the power to bend space and time. When we got him, he looked like a Hiro, and I still pretend that when we're gone, he goes back in time, or stops time.

Because they all came from Farmington New Mexico (really close to the Navajo reservation, the brats had to have "Indian" names. The Bisti is a wildness area we love to hike. It's in the middle of the reservation.
Tusan Homichi of the Bisti (T'omichi for short) Tomichi was a fierce kit - she's smallest, but she's the Alpha of the tribe- she's very territorial and protects the tribe. Tusan Homichi is the legendary Hopi Warrior Mouse who saved the people from their enemy, a hawk who was killing all of their chickens.
Tonto Silver Toes of the Bisti Jay Silverheels played Tonto, the mellow Indian in the Lone Ranger TV series ---The tips of Tonto's toes are white/silvery looking, and since Tonto is a very laid back couch potato ferret, he earned his name
Kocha Mana Kachina of the Bisti (Also seen as Kutcha Mana) Kocha Mana Kachina is the Hopi white girl kachina, sister to her brother Kocha Kachina. Kachinas are ceremonial dancers who convey the wishes of the people to the spirits/earth/animals. When dancing, Kachinas are considered to be the embodiment of spirits, animals, or forces they represent. Since Kachina is albino, she has those red "other world"-like eyes to contast her white fur. She is also my best dancer!
Hoodoo Shaman of the Bisti Shaman got his name because of he possesses magical powers beyond any power my other 3 ferrets may have. The first 3 ferrets were acquired together. Shaman came about a year and a half later. I told my husband I had gotten on the list for a baby from a particular breeding that was planned. He thought I was joking about the 4th ferret.....I wasn't. So my husband Tom says that Shaman has magical powers to be able to sneak into this household! Hoodoo are crazy rock formations in the Bisti that look very mystical. So,,, the "papoose" is my largest ferret - and he definitely has his own form of magic!
