Mimi Siku (cat pee, and boy did she live up to that name), Nachoda Sacajawea, and Tadamichi Ota I have learned the hard way to be very careful of your names as most will live up to them. (or perhaps it is the little animal's soul that is already that way that prompts you to pick such a fitting name lol). Either the animal tells me its name (like Kenai) or I know a name in advance and it finds the animal (like Koda). Koda very much is a playful baby bear always into trouble and looking for adventure and just wanting to be loved! I had a beautiful baby leopard Gecko named King Tutankhamen who died a few days after I got him, jsut like his namesake died young. His counterpart, Galileo (turned out to be a girl) was as beautiful as the stars her namesake looked at and had a very milky way like pattern when it developed. The baby runt mouse Raisin ended up as dead and shriveled as a raisin that was once a grape.. Tito Rex is very much a vicious dinosaur. My dog (with my parents) Holly is a sweet little loving intelligent animal. Holly reminds me of someone small, sweet, and really smart but kind of shy until she knows you. That is my dog! lol

Loki started out as "Gaara" from the Naruto series (I let hubby name him). After a couple of days, Gaara didn't seem to fit. I wanted a name that described his playful and mischievious nature and Loki sounded good. Once I called him that one or two times, I realized it was perfect. Asher gave me very little choice. I was going to go with Thor (in keeping with Norse mythology) when the little turd knocked over the ash bucket near our wood stove. He came out completely grey and covered in Ash. Hence, Asher. Juno, our rescue, was going to be Frigga (I had decided on Frigga as my girl name a long time ago). I wasn't sure when I got her, because Asher isn't a Norse name. Then my husband called her Juno. He says it's after a video game character, but as I loved the movie Juno and I loved Juneau, Alaska, the name Juno was perfect. Now if we talk nicknames, I could write a book. But the most common are: Loke-a-boke, Smash Man, and June Bug.

I go through a list of names in my head (names from video games, movies, music artists) and eventually I find one that just fits. Alessa's name is from the video game "Silent Hill" and Maynard's name comes from the music artist Maynard James Keenan

My first ferret, Phoenix, already came with his name and i just though it was awesome so i kept it. When i decided that Phoenix needed a buddy, i wanted to pick another name that fit well with Phoenix. As a kid..my fave actor was River Phoenix. So my second furbabe became River. When ferret math struck again, I picked Jude bc that was R.P. middle name. Napoleon and Edward were craigslist ferrets. For some reason their previous owners had never bothered to name them Since i <3 Tim Burton, i decided to name one of the boys Edward after Edward Scissorhands. Napoleon got his name after i watched a history documentary on Napoleon Bonaparte. I just thought it was a cute name and it seemed to fit him. Egg Rolls original name was supposed to be Maguro. However, i never could pronounce it correctly. Since he was super chubby and i was craving Chinese food, i named him Egg Roll instead

When I am naming animals, I will often spend hours scouring baby name websites and the like for ideas. Zoe just popped at us for our little binkie toes, and so Zoe it was.
Citrus and Sayen came to us as "Princess" and "Jail Bait". New life, new name, right? Citrus came from the fact that she would go absolutely bonkers if a can of Citrus Drop (Kroger's generic Mtn. Dew) was left within her reach. Sayen means beautiful or lovely, and she is such a pretty fert.
Louie and Lestat came to us named as such, and they will remain by those names, as they fit them quite well. =3

Sly Bandit WAS suppose to be Sly Cooper, from the video game. But he has the 'bandit' eye band so It had to be a bandit. Nothing really fun like you guys!!!
His original name was Diego, which I HATED until I saw him, then I liked it. but the hubby wanted it changed. (he's the type if the name is lame, then he doesn't even bother associating with him..) So we changed it.

My first one is a sneaky weasel so he is Sneasel.
Now Pookie was given to him my the lady of the house. I wanted another ferret and so I took her with me to get the second, I asked her what she would call him and stuck with it. Now if there are any complaints I simply say you picked him and you named him>,<.
Rinse and repeat Matilda.
Emily was a rescue and came with her name.

Anks - My boyfriend plays wow, it's his characters name.. I call her anksy pants (like antsy pants) cause shes a super wiggle worm. Vaeda - I was watching caesar milan's dog show and they had a pair of timer wolf mixes and the females name was vaeda and I liked it. Hannable - horrible biter as a kit, he was out for blood from the moment he woke up till he fell asleep. Now he's a big ball of ferret jelly. Sasha - I don't know.. she was so small and helpless, for the first three days she lived in my hoodie pocket or on my chest. She was a very sick little baby. I call her my little porker now because shes so dang fat, and she can smell a drop of ferretone from a mile away I SWEAR! Gizmo - a friend had a ferret that had recently died named gizmo, she said he looked just like him and asked if we would name him that, so I did! Auggie - Anyone watch Covert Affairs? lol Dozer - aka big baby doze doze! lol he's a minature bulldozer, ANYTHING on my nightstand/coffee table/end table/computer desk/ you name it, must be pushed off with his nose. He will push the dogs water bowl (this thing holds a gallon of water) around with his nose for hours if I'd let him. My next group came with the names of the friends cast, I didnt like it, plus they couldnt tell me exactly who was who, so I renamed them. Sam- one of the brothers from supernatural, I call him my gentle giant, he's a big ferret and he loves to be snuggled. Dean - the other brother, he's wild and crazy, puts his head down - tail straight out and he RUNS from one side of the room to the other and back again, all the while dooking up a storm. Tasha - she looks alot like Sasha, she's nick named the shiver queen, as soon as I pick her up she shakes like she's going to fall apart, but shes not afraid of us one bit. Kodiak - he looked like a bear, he's such a cutie, nick named Mr. speckles (his nose is all speckled) Naobi - from the matrix, she's a tough girl, she does not share the food bowl lol I call her my princess, she wont use the dang litter box if there is even the tinest pile of poo in there. Leiloo - from the 5th element, my littlest leiloo so tiny but fierce! I caught her dragging a 4ft tall stitch across our bedroom floor the other day (I thought it was pretty funny, leiloo and stitch lol ) she chewed a hole in his nose though so I had to confiscate him And then theres Church, she was in with the bonded group because she was a bad biter and nothing was calming her down. I call her my little devil, she managed to bite my neck the other day (looks like a freaking hickey) then she was playing in my lap while I was spoon feeding some soupies to Hannable, she crawled up my shirt in like half a second and bit my lip (MAJOR OUCH!) needless to say her biting has NOT improved. I'm betting she's going to be the ferret that lives till shes 10 years old and will bite me every day of it. and now we have the little baby... I'm still calling her Berry but i'm not sure if i'll keep that or not. She's turning into a little hellion, she's got a real fetish for hard plastic and will screech like a pterodactyl if I take it away from her. I've never heard such racket from any of my kids. I think every other breath out of her while she's awake is a hiss. She's got attitude!

I named Calvin after Calvin Klein, there was a reason at the time, but I can't remember it for the life of me... Maybe I bought a Calvin Klein product, I don't know. haha And Martin came with his name, it suited him and was cute. So I left it be.

So I think Koda and Kenai's naming story is kind of funny, so I wondered how everyone else picked their ferrets' names? Koda was a combination of things. I watched the movie Beast Master (my profile pic lol) and fell in love with Kodo and Podo and remembered all of the times I asked for a ferret as a kid. Then I saw them in the pet store...found this forum...that is really how it all started! haha Anyways, when I first watched the movie I heard Koda and Poda instead of Kodo/Podo! I loved it! On top of that, when I got Koda his personality was very much like little Koda in Brother Bear. So his name was inspired by a combination of Beast Master, and Brother Bear. (I LOVE that move by the way! . Anyways, for my second ferret (Kenai) I wanted to stick with something Alaskan for a male (or Stella Luna for a female - I still plan on eventually having a Stella Luna!) and I thought the name Sitka would be nice if I got another male. Well Kenai came home and his name was just Kenai, Sitka fit too, but sometimes you just know the right name, and Kenai was it. I honestly could never remember the name of the older bear in the movie Brother Bear, and I thought Kenai was one of the older brothers (the human ones). Well turns out it was the brother! It is soo perfect! I love it! So I have my little Brother Bears, Koda and Kenai! So, how did your ferrets get their names? Neat story! I have to remember to post how my kids got their names one day but my wrist is acting up so its kinda painful. I think i typed it on another board so Ill see if I can find it then copy and paste it.

It is soo perfect! I love it! So I have my little Brother Bears, Koda and Kenai! So, how did your ferrets get their names? This is a story so bare with me, starts off topic but itll get back to main topic i promise- WAY WAY back in the day it was a family tradition to name pets after alcohol/alcoholic beverages. I think it was like my great great grandparents families (including cousins and what not), my great grandparents (again including cousins and what not) and stopped with my grandparents (because they are sticks in the mud? i guess, lol). I liked the idea but had forgotten about it until I got my dog.. When I got my chihuahua he was four months old, he (of course) loved to chew and his ears didn't stand up straight yet (that happens at 6-8 months in Chihuahuas) so I was going to call him Lechuga which is spanish for lettuce (his ears looked like lettuce leaves) and i would be able to call him Chuey (pronounced Chewy). My cousin, thankfully, talked me out of it. She doesn't fallow the tradition but reminded me of it and how cute I thought it was. It took a long time to settle on a name and the name was epic. I love Tequila but not gold Tequila, I like clear Tequila- its better and I can drink it quicker before it hits me so I pass sleepy-drunk and go right from sober to energetic-drunk. A few weeks before I went to pick up my pup, my cousin and I were drinking (we were like 17 or 18 at the time so we got way out of hand) and her boyfriend said some off handed topic that got her upset and mid fist fight with him I turned to her and said "TEQUILA. I WILL NAME HIM TEQUILA because he will make me strong, like spinach." I soo have no memory of saying that or fighting him but she recorded it on her phone. It was so funny I couldnt resist. So that was Tequila, now i decided I liked keeping in tradition. When I brought Kahlua home she was nearly dead, she was so thin and mellow but SO sweet, (shes fat and happy now, no longer mellow but still super sweet) ergo Kahlua, mellow and sweet and thin (I always imagined Kahlua would have the same texture/look/feel as Baily's but when I drank it i discovered it was oddly thin and light) A few months later came Mojito- he is a fire cracker, white and just ... crazy- totally crazy. I was torn on a name for him, I really wanted to call him Aguadiente which is a strong liqur from the latino culture. Strong and makes you crazy and its clear- I was like OMG perfect. But no one could pronounce it so I resorted to a face book poll. I had a few other names picked out for him that I liked but none seemed to fit until my friend told me "What about Mojito" which makes her totally laid back self act like a nut, its strong (when she makes it) and clear and it just sneaks up on you- much exactally like Mojito. It won the poll vote so thats how he got it. Now cats, I had a little black cat that I picked up outside of a tattoo parlor. She was the sweetest thing but alone and flea covered. My heart broke for her so I brought her home.. I was told she could stay OUTSIDE not inside at all, ever (this was while I was living with my cousin who's hubby hates cats- esp black cats) A few days after i brought her home I decided she needed a name and named her after the tattoo parlor I found her at- its Jack Browns so she became Jackie Brown. I came home one day and she was gone. I dont know where she went and I keep her in my prayers that she is ok. When I found Sailor Jerry I wanted to keep with the naming stray cats something to do with tattos. His name is perfect, it goes with the stray cat tattoo tradition as well as the alc tradition. Sailor Jerry was a tattoo artist, a real man, who was one of the first artists to mix traditional american tattoos with the asian styles (much like ed hardy, he actually taught ed hardy if my tattoo knowlege isnt failing me) and he also owned a line of rum named after himself. So yea all my kids are booze! lol

Sonny is short for Santino. as in "Santino Corleone" of the Godfather movie. He had an attitude and he was a hothead when we brought him home.
