Is it just me, or are the white, and lighter ferrets more aggressive in general. Even when just playing I've noticed they tend to nip more. Lars and Rascal both play hard, and Rascal nips constantly when she plays with me. But any dark ferret I've had was very gentle, or at least more polite. The very first white ferret I got bit my dog inside of her ear, for no obvious reason, she was letting him sniff around in her ear, he bit and she had to wear a cone for months. My dark colored ferret, Lotus, and my marked white ferret,Johnny, are gentle and as sweet as can be. But D on the other hand will bite our feet if we're not paying attention to where she is if we put our feet on the floor. She got me pretty good the other night and almost broke the skin right above a vein.

Crystal, my deaf girl, is a bit more exuberant in her play than the others( well except for ROman - who I am still utilizing stuffed animals and towels as barriers to play with).
It may stem from the reason that white predators stand out, so in order to be successful hunters they HAVE to be more persistent hunters. This could easily equate to rougher play with us tender skinned humans.
Cheers, Kim

Fang (going in for a name change here ...all my babies get a new name when they get a new life, and Fang as cute as it is reminds that he's a biter, I always get away from those connotations) is doing very well. He's eating all his raw food like a trooper. I never took his kibble, I left it with Shirley for a couple of her kibble addicts. He's such a sweetie...he tried to bite dh through the cage, in full attack mode I might add, tail just going...poor little fellow. He's not been in cage since he got home. He's been held and snuggled by everyone in the family...he loves that. Once he's more settled in, I'm going to test him for deafness. He doesn't respond correctly for a hearing ferret, but stress might cause this. I will test him in a couple of weeks. If this is the case, you may have the answer why he's so quick to bite. I will give you an update later. ciao

I am SO glad to hear this! I am totally in agreement with a name change, his first name was Leo, so this will be at least his 3ed change. I am so happy he's good with the raw, he really seemed to jump on it while he was with me. I know he will be a very happy guy now, I couldn't ask for more.

Out of my three my sable Bear is the biter. He bites me on occasion for no reason but it hasn't happened in a while. He has bitten someone he didn't know who reached in their cage and broke skin but I scolded that person for even doing something so retarded with out my permission. He's also known for biting other family members like when they've reached in the cage to fill the food dish while watching them but hes never even once tried to nip the vet. When I first got him I couldn't even touch him with out getting bitten multiple times or latched on to (thank god he doesnt do that anymore). My family has tried though out the years to get me to give him up due to this (my dad has a policy of not owning any animals who bite family) but I've refused everytime since it isn't his fault and he's showed so much improvment since then. I know he wasn't played with at the petstore and who knows what social interactions, if any, he had before that or at the path valley ranch.

I was reading their website not too long ago and they made it seem like their ferrets are happy and non biters... Hmm.. I thought they were some kind of ferret puppy mill by all the different types they breed. I like the saying "You can't be good at anything if you try to do everything.." That's why I only picked a few types of rats to breed for pets. I don't understand why people feel like they need to breed every color and marking combination under the sun when they should just pick out their favorites and breed those... People are soo stupid sometimes I guess...
