I found a huge list of online mouse vendors but their prices were almost the same if not more expensive. Most of them didn't list the shipping price so much as the types of shipping they offer so I went by cost per mouse vs rodent pro. I'd say your best bet would be to try and pick up an order at a reptile event (i'm picking up one at the buckeye bash), find a local supplier (theres one in the hampton area that posts ads on the link listed in the shopping section) or if you know anyone with a snake/ferret who will split an order with you. In looking this up I found many posts by snake owners who said they have bought pinkies from petco?? I assume they must have a large store near them. Sorry I couldn't be much help. www.themousefactory.com/orders/qe_orders_mice.htmlwww.bigcheeserodents.com/Pricing.htmlTheres a reptile show every few months in richmond and manassas. They might be worth checking out. Afer paying nearly $3 for two mice from a pet store here, not including the cost of travel, I have decided it would be much better to breed my own mice. I can buy rodents and whatnot from other sources to keep it random. And after set-up costs, ect it really isn't exspensive.

Try the chicks. They are cheaper per 100 ($25) and they last longer. Also, at my house they are preferred over mice unless the mice are live.

What the heck? $60??? The prices of pinkies on rodent pro are as follows:
Extra Small Pinkies: (bag of 100) $16 (if you buy less then 500 pinkies) Small Pinkies: (bag of 100) $16 (if you buy less then 500 pinkies) Large Pinkies: (bag of 100) $16 (if you buy less then 500 pinkies)
That is not bad AT ALL considering that that puts them at like $0.16 each (I have to pay about $100 per pinky at my local petshop!) Now are you saying that is $60 including shipping? If so then my advice is dont just order 1 bag of mice. With rodentpro they have a thing that helps you calculate how to place your order so you make the most of your shipping box space. If you place a large order, its alot of $$$ up front but the shipping cost isnt as bad and you wont have to re-order for a while. Like Jasmine, I order 4x per year. I usually spend $200 on:
Mouse pinkies Mouse fuzzies Mouse hoppers Mouse adults Mouse extra large adults Medium rats Quail Guinea pigs Rabbit
To save on shipping you can look on the rodentpro site and see what reptile (or ferret) shows they will be at. I am picking up my next order from rodentpro at the 2008 Buckeye Bash Ferret Show.
Other then breeding your own mice, you wont find a better deal then rodentpro. Its not the price of the mice that sucks, its the shipping, but they have to ship FROZEN goods so it will be more expensive. Again...just place a large order and you will be good to go.

Try the chicks. They are cheaper per 100 ($25) and they last longer. Also, at my house they are preferred over mice unless the mice are live. Chicks are a good treat but shouldnt be fed as a stable food. Because the chicks are only 1 day old, they are pretty low in calcium. My advice is to feed mainly adult animals and throw in some babies for variety (of nutrients). Again, with rodentrp your best bet is to: 1. Place a large order so you dont have to reorder for a while 2. Place an order with a friend nearby that has whole prey fed ferrets and split the cost of shipping. Check out the yahoo group NaturalFerrets (in addition to our forum) to try and find someone to be your "order buddy" 3. Pick up your order at one of the shows rodentpro attends (to save on shipping)

Rodent pro's pries of the actual prey aren't bad- its the shipping that kills you! 60.00 will buy quite a few adult mice from a pet store, several plastic bins, food and water dishes, bedding and even a few wheels to set up your own breeding stock.
I like the idea of sharing costs with a delivery- but finding someone to share such costs can be a daunting task!
Good luck! Kim

Try to look in your phone book for more pet shops. One that specialize in reptiles and such. Stay away from petsmart and major chain pet stores like petco and stuff they will charge out the yin yang because the demand isn't high. The last time I got some pinky mice as snacks for my tarantulas they gave them to me for 25 cents for 3 of them. One time they even forget to rind them up and I pointed it out to them and they gave them to me for free. Just call around a few places. You may have to go a couple miles away from your house but every town have at least one or 2 pet stores that specialize in reptiles.

Oh, and remember reptile shows. Ferret shows are non exsistant where I am (ok, I haven't heard of any, but they might exsist), but there are enough reptile shows to go to.

I managed to find a lady who breeds rats for her snakes. She sells me all her extra rodents. I've also offered to buy all her extra mice once they get onto production also. Rodent pro doesn't even ship up here, so we have to look to the reptile people to get our prey stuff. I've managed to locate two suppliers. Both suppliers supply to snake owners. I know exactly what goes into their product, I know they're dispatched humanely and my guys love them. The ones that I buy from the pet store (sometimes stock is down, mice and rats don't always have babies on time ) my guys will sometimes leave parts. I don't know if they're older, used up breeders or just left in the freezer too long, but my guys will leave parts of these and sometimes take a couple of days to eat them. This is not the case with the ones that I get from my suppliers. I also save on not having to pay shipping The local retail supplier for reptiles owners charged me $58 for 8 rats ....hence the need to find a more economical supplier. You indeed have my sympathy
