For me it has been a very long and arduous day (I wish I had more to drink). For the monsters... well they had a blast! I found out that Dillon has been hiding food in Piper's bed. Oh, and he ran into my non-proofed room as I was coming out and it took me forever to get him out again. Of course the others we're watching the whole thing like it was a Pay-per-view event! Grrr. I dropped a bag of kibble on the floor and Piper appeared like Batman and started eating it up. There's nothing like a major setback to improve one's day right? Well did I mention that while on a conference call with work she ate through the cable headset for the phone? Like it was some sort of game! Gaaah! Bandit has taken to biting my feet when she wakes up. She doesn't necessarily want to play, she just wants me to know that she's awake. Ouch! Malcolm fell out of the cage twice today! First when I was feeding them in the morning! Dillon jumped from the cage to my shoulder and Mal tried it and just fell straight down. Because my hands were full I couldn't catch him. Then he fell out again while I was explaining to Piper why she couldn't have my cell phone. Blam! Oh and at work it seemed that just about everything decided to break, gotta love those 12 hour work days. Booo! So what's the good news... I've learned that my babies like the Blues as much as I do. And Piper really likes dancing with dad (even though dad can't dance). I picked her up and held her in my arms with the music playing. Normally she doesn't like being held but she just laid there looking up at me; I swear she was smiling! It was without question the highlight of my day, maybe even the week. Makes all the other stuff well worth it.

Doesn't it take a day like that to make you wish that maybe you stayed in bed. I hope that Malcome is ok?! There's nothing like a forbidden room to prove that catching a ferret is probably next to impossible. I hope that tomorrow is better and that you have more fun and your furbabies have a little less at your expense Chin up....it can only get better ciao

I forgot to mention Malcolm has decided that he doesn't like his name. All the others know their names, even if they don't always respond, Mal never has. However he does respond to his nickname of Bear. I just noticed this today when he woke up and I said, "Hey Bear, come to daddy." And he looked up and walked right over! So I tried it a couple of more times and of course he responded right away. Its probably my fault, I think I may have been using Bear more than Malcolm. I guess a name he knows and likes is better than one he doesn't. Oh, and he's just fine. He has fallen out of the cage more than all the others combined. After the first few times I started keeping the top part of the cage closed when they are out (today I forgot). Feeding time is rough because I have to have one had free to catch him. I've gotten pretty good at this, about half of his falls end with me catching him in the air. Maybe with some more practice I can join a baseball team...

Ahhh the name game I'm usually pretty good at getting what the furbabies want to be called but I really made a mess of Lady "B" Itchy 's name. All furbabies get new names when they come into my rescue/sanctuary. New life, new name, unless the furbaby likes their name. I've never had a problem. Lady "B" came in as Miss Merryweather.... We changed it to Lady Guinevere...it just didn't happen. We changed it to Lady Morgana Lefert. Not near nasty enough....we settled on Lady B Itchy...whom I usually refer to as the Wee Beastie. It works for her I'm glad that Malcome wasn't hurt, high places is something ferrets just don't seem to get the hang of. I have, my baby Napoleon who seems to think he's a flying squirrel. Catching him as he launches himself into thin air has become second nature. I really fear for him. I hope that your day is better tomorrow. See you around ciao

Loki doesn't like to be held no matter the situation unless I am very lucky and I HAVE to be petting her. If I stop petting her she wants to squirm away. So the other day I can't remember what was going on to provoke this but I started dancing (basicly swaying back and forth I can't dance either) holding her AND Mr. Bean who doesn't like to be held either. And they both calmed down and went limp. However for Mr. Bean it was only for about 1 minute but Loki was like you can move around all crazy and I'll lay here all day. The stuff out babies do.

Yep, there's flying ferrets and there are lead ferrets! Unfortunately the lead ferrets don't know they can't fly! All my kids can climb sofa mountain and then to the tops of the two cages. I have a blanket tossed over the top so they don't fall through the wires. They like being eyeball to eyeball with Mom! Crystal, my flying ferret easily launches herself over into my arms. Bugsy however hasn't figured out that in order to launch oneslef, you first need to coil the haunches with your hind feet well under your belly ( or chest as Crystal knows works best). no, Bugsy lays flat on his belly and then pushes himself off with his forefeet, stretching his nose outward and lengthening his neck while his hind end just cascades off the edge of the cage. The surprise in his face as he is going earthbound is priceless, I'll catch him mid air and he slides the rest of the way to the ground plastered against my leg, bounces over to sofa mountain and thence to the cage top only to repeat the whole thing! Silly ferret!
Sorry your day was a rough one but glad you finished it with a happy fuzzy dance!
Cheers, Kim

Kim, your two sound exactly like mine. Dillon learned to jump by pouncing on Piper from the couch. Bear (formerly Malcolm) seems to think all he has to do is jump in the air and magic will take care of the rest.
