Trina, what are your babies currently eating? Are they BOTH eating meat/bone/organ and a variety of meats? If so, then its time for me to review your weekly feeding schedule! (you are close to "graduation" )

(you are close to "graduation" ) Both are eating meat/bone/organ but only chicken and cgh so far. I'm working this week on other meats. Tomorrow is pork. I hope to get turkey end of week. I hope to feed these three meat/bones with chicken heart, liver, gizzards and an occasional mouse or two as treats. We don't eat beef often but will introduce when we do. This fall dh will probably provide venison for us. Basically my goal is for them to eat what we are eating plus organs & mice. I'm not really leaning on whole prey as the basic food but rather rmb. I'm really excited and am proud of Nikko and Yuki!!!

I am too! Just get them onto a few more meats and then it will be time to review your feeding schedule. Keep up the great work and let us know when they try something new.

Here is my feeding schedule:
My kids like to eat rmb at night, so I feed meat in morning rmb at bedtime.
Monday - chicken breast, wings Tuesday - cgh, chicken thigh rmb Wednesday - organ (liver, heart, gizzard), cgh rmb Thursday - pork/lamb, wings Friday - turkey/beef, chicken thigh rmb Weekend - any of above, rmb
occasional mouse for treat/enrichment raw egg once a week other organs as available
note: I haven't introduced turkey or lamb yet...but they are eating all of the above. I really don't expect any problems with new meats...they are accepting variety very easily now! YAY!

What??? You're not planning on having mice for dinner at least once a week - I hear they're very tasty for humans too Hee-Hee I just couldn't resist!!!! I we need a little more specific infomation to make sure the percentages are reasonable. For example, if you feed one teeny-tiny piece of chicken meat in the morning and 25 chicken wings per ferrt in the evening, that might be too much bone.Or if you fed 25 chicken breats in the moring and i/4 inch of chicken bones in the evening, that would be whacked out in the other direction. You may want to take a look at the threads of the people who has "graduated" in the archives. If you start from the bottom of the thread and work backwards, you'll be able to see how they described what they feed (quantity-wise) My gosh, girl, your little kids are just like a couple of little meat grinders ! YAY!!! -jennifer

Yuki and Nikko are still kits (pigs!)...I feed the meat chunks all day long and allow them to eat all they want. And I give each one rmb at bedtime...usually gone by morning. I will adjust portion as they grow to at least a palm size meat chunk each every morning and rmb each at night. This is as specific as I can get right now. I don't weigh their food. When I buy chicken I cut it up removing most all the meat from the thigh bone...freeze it all flat so that the chunks don't stick together...when frozen completely I put all the meat chunks in one large bag and all the rmb bones (thighs and wings) in another bag. Then I just thaw and feed as needed. Mice for movie night!!!

I'm not really sure what you want.

I think your schedule looks good to me, Trina. What Jennifer wanted to know is are you feeding a TON of boneless meat and then like a teeny tiny amounts of rmb (or if they eat the meat off the rmbs but not the bones ) Sounds like everything is working out just fine, though Im proud of how far you've come! You really stuck with it and I hope you continue to see great results! Now there is one last thing I want you to do (and then I am moving this thread to the "newbie switch archive": If you havent already, it might be a good idea to start popping in to the yahoo! group NaturalFerrets. I know yahoo! lists suck (the format) BUT there are many many senior raw feeders on there and it would be wise to make use of their knowledge. I try and advise all my "completed switchers" to get on there and post a bit. I still want you to say on HF, but I want you to "broaden your horizons" by getting a bit of NaturalFerret's info as well. Sound good? pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalFerrets/You'll probably run in to the Holistic Ferret Mentors on there. This is where THEY go to ask THEIR questions on natural diet (I do too). Let me know if you get any good info out of here. and....... Now that you've completed the switch, have had your feeding schedule reviewd, and been advised to check out NaturalFerrets, its time to retire this thread to the "newbie switch archive"! No one (yourself included) will be able to post in this thread anymore once its been moved to the archive. Please begin posting your diet-related questions in the "whole prey" "raw" or "general feeding questions and discussion" area. We encourage EVERYONE that is archived to continue posting. Feeding a natural diet is a learning PROCESS, there is much to learn after making the switch. Feel free to jump in and help to answer newbie questions. One of the ways you can learn is through teaching. We hope you stick around so that we can celebrate the 1 year anniversary of starting your kids on raw with you!

I am posting this for Quill. I sent her this "3 month post-switch evaluation form" and she filled it out. My questions are in bold and her answers are in regular typeface. 3 Months Since the Switch- EVALUATION #1: 1. Since switching to a natural diet, what are the most noticeable changes you have noticed in your ferret(s). Please be specific. more alert more active less poop poop stinks less very muscular fur softer 2. Have you filled out the "Natural Diet Survey"? (If not, please do by going to the following link: holisticferret.proboards80.com/in....play&thread=241)yes, did that 3. Please post a "sample weekly feeding schedule". Basically, give us an idea of what you feed your ferret(s) each week. This way we can review it (again) and let you know if you need to make any changes to ensure proper nutrition. Post your schedule in the following format:I feed my ferts in the morning, remove uneaten (if any) in the evening and feed fresh. On Cornish game hen day i feed 1/2 in morning and 1/2 evening. I do not measure the food, but my ferts usually eat palm size each per feeding. MONDAY:chicken breast chunks TUESDAY:Cornish game hen WEDNESDAY:organs in the morning and chicken wings at night THURSDAY:beef chunks FRIDAY:Cornish game hen SATURDAY:pork or lamb chunks SUNDAY:chicken thighs with bone chicken hearts for occasional treat raw egg once a week other meats depending on what we have for dinner This winter will probably introduce venison. 4. Do you have any questions or concerns regarding your ferret(s) diet? no 5. Do you have any new "diet goals" for your ferrets that you would like us to help you with, such as: adding whole prey to the diet, diversifying the types of meat fed, or incorporating freeze-dried or commercial raw foods? If so, please specify. I hope to introduce whole prey soon. 5. How was your experience with the Holistic Ferret Mentor Program? What did you like about the program? What didn't you like? What can we do to make our program better? The mentor program was wonderful. My mentor(s) were very helpful, knowledgeable and patient. I loved the suggestions given to help make the switch an enjoyable time instead of stressful. I liked the individual attention given ... very personalized. I felt like the mentors really were interested in my ferrets and I liked the fact that they checked in every day. My questions were always answered quickly. When the web site is up the program will be even better because all the reference info will be in one place. I highly recommend "Holistic Ferret Forum" to anyone wanting to improve the quality of life for their ferrets by switching to a natural carnivorous diet.
