Look at the ad some moron posted on craigslist!! I have a very nice ferret cage for sale. It measures 30 X 18 x 16. Comes complete with everything including a rare Moroccan hairless ferret. OK, so it could be Moroccan, and it definably has no hair... Here's the back story. Wife's lover gave her a ferret, ferret got into gum and wife clipped it to clean it (wife seldom, made good choices). It has been much easier to get rid of the wife than a naked ferret. It's a girl, tame and loving (unlike wife). I want to get rid of it (like wife). First 25.00 OBO gets both (cage and ferret, wife already sold) Thanks

What smart ferret owner would believe that the intire ferret was shaved because of bubble gum? I really think the poor thing is adrenal

It could be a scam, then again...you've no idea how stupid people can be Cruelty, is sometimes only in the eyes of the beholder. I encountered this charming couple who stopped to talk with me about a little furbaby that they had. They were snuggling my Napoleon, and they obviously really cared. They said that they had just lost their little furbaby and really missed him. After further conversation, I discover that their little one had died very young...less than 18 months. It happens, right... They're talking about maybe getting another furbaby. This leads to things that they did with him. He was really spoiled rotten, they did love him. They had converted their balcony into an outside play area just for the ferret. He had his own room, they took him everywhere. I proceed to get Napoleon's meal out of the cooler. It's time for him to eat. He gets raw ground when we're at shows as people find that a little less disturbing than watching a ferret munch a mouse. These people were horrified. Disgusted. They were vegans....they fed their ferret a vegan diet...they killed their furbaby. He starved to death. I tried to explain (gently please, I'm not a total heel) but they just didn't get it. I truly hope they never get another ferret but...there are people out there who just don't get it. These people may have even fed the poor ferret the gum. Think about what kind of mess your ferret could get into if they got into gum. Just a thought. I'm betting, adrenal, they already know it and don't want to deal with it. The troubled lives our little furbabies lead. ciao

Oh my Heather! That almost made me puke. How could you not know to at least *include* meat. Sick! They didn't just kill their ferret, they tortured it first.
Oh, just wanted to say I am a fellow Canadian.

OMG is right!! For both stories. Made my gut wrench. That is so horrible Makes me want to cry scream and everything all at once. Reminds me of a story a few months ago. I can't remember if it was here locally in TN or not but this Vegan couple had a newborn baby at home without reporting it to the hospital or anything and the baby died at either 6 weeks or 8 weeks....this is really bad too..They only fed it apple juice and soy milk. Not soy based baby formula which we all know is availble.........well most of us i guess but SOY MILK like the kind adults and kids can drink... They insisted they were doing the best thing possible for there baby and they did nothing wrong. Well they were both tried for murder and I am pretty sure they are both in prison now.

Vegetarian ferrets- it isn't inconceivable when you see pet food sites like this one: www.petfoodshop.com/index.cfm?id=1010479&fuseaction=browse&pageid=1Their label connotates that these carnivores "evolved" to eat vegetables. "evolution" pet food HAH! yeah and carnassial teeth evolved to strip leaves from trees and long canines are exactly what is needed to shear grass and herbs from their roots! Give me a break! I don't have a problem with people choosing to be vegan or vegetarians but ferrets are STRICT carnivores- more so than even cats or dogs because they LACK that all important plant digestive section called the cecum! I think its preposterous to impose such personal choices upon defenseless starving animals! That is why I highly commend those who ARE vegetarian that have made the decision to feed their animals a proper, species specific appropriate carnivorous diet! Notice the high use of wheat and soy ingredients. Can you say "instant insulinoma"? I don't mind feeding my ferrets mice in public. More people are fascinated at this idea than are turned off by it. Letting the people SEE that ferrets actually EAT rodents often changes their misconceptions about ferrets being rodents themselves. Many people that "hate" mice and rats actually begin to see ferrets in a better light! Cheers, Kim

I've told people about my ferrets raw diet, I have had a couple just look dumb founded and say "I thought ferrets eat fruits and veggies". I can kinda understand people thinking that but they should have researched, what I HATE is when people want to be vegan then they force that onto they're non-vegan pets.. I have my own beliefs (that blood shouldn't be consumed) but that dosen't mean that I apply that to my animals, who are all carnivores! weloveourweasels, thats awful. Babies were not even made to drink formula, let alone soy milk. I wrote some of the anwsers to the holistic ferret site Q & A. Evalution is one thing I covered, there simply has not been enough time for carnivores to evolve since being domesticated. Not to eat kibble or to be vegan. Maybe the ferret did get into gum, I emailed the person and they said "yes it was honestly shaved, my now gone wife was an odd bird to say the least....as prof of the latter she left a poodle puff on the end of it's tail"

There had to be more thasn one person involved in shaving the ferret. I can't imagine ANY ferret sitting still long enough or being calm enough to allow itself to be completely shaved, and the shaver being able to leave a "poodle puff" on its tail!
My guess is that guy got pissed at his wife for accepting a ferret from her "lover" ( if that indeed is the true story) and he and a friend of his decided to annoy the wife by shaving the ferret.
I hope someone can adopt the poor abused thing!
Cheers, Kim

This just peeves me off! I am a UC advocate and a future UCer myself (Unassisted Childbirth). And stories like this give it a horrible light, but the sad thing is, you typically only hear the bad things. I am also a Breastfeeding advocate, actually I guess you can call me a Crunchy/AP/Natural Mum. To both my human and fur kids. I BF and feed my ferts raw/whole prey. Its whats right, and whats best!
