I have been noticing a lot in the ferret realm that a lot of peoples more lighter colored ferrets like my Loki and Mr. Bean are a lot less affectionate than sables or darker colored ferrets like Rolo. I can do whatever I want with Rolo and she won't care. She loves to do laundry with me and go check the mail etc. She just lays limp in my arms. She lives for it. I noticed on one of quills posts she says Nikko is more cuddly than Yuki who just wants to be put down. For instance right now she woke up to scratch and I picked her up and rolled her into a ball and she is laying in my lap like she always does. Anyways who else has a cuddly darker ferret and if any who has a cuddly light ferret?

I think it depends on the ferret more than the color. I don't know. My Oliver who is a choclate color who isn't a very light color or a dark color LOVES to cuddle and follow me around. Chewie who is champange loves to cuddle and give kisses, but doesn't really follow me around. There's also a dark sable at the pet store that absolutley would rather cuddle and give kisses than play! So I don't really know...

My dark sables from all dark sable background are very human oriented - they want attention and intercation from people. They aren't however big on being cuddly and are a bit "wild". My most docile ferrets have been the dilutes (chocolate, cinnamon, champagne) but most of them weren't so much cuddly, just calmer. Ophelia is a chocolate/silver blaze and she is pretty cuddley. My first ferret Quigley was an albino and was very cuddley - he was like a lap dog and would follow me around and curl up on my lap.
Much of it has to do with genetics but I do think temperament can tie in with appearance. My dark sables from the dark sable line have a more "wild" nature to them and are extremely intelligent. IMO breeding for a more natural looking ferret over multiple generations has effected their temperament, as well as looks.

Crystal my washed out deaf panda ( who appears all white now unless you look really really close) will fly in for a visit, maybe a smooch, but never a snuggle although she loves to wrestle and play tag.
Bugsy my dark sable boy loves a grand game of tag and will roll over to have his belly tickled, but is not big on any snuggling. He'll offer one or two kisses if nobody else is looking.
Windy my chocolate girl will cuddle for a short time while cradled in y arms as long as I allow her to chew on my arm. She too would rather play than snuggle.
Faylene my sable older girl goes back and forth between snuggling and being aloof. While being held she is a constant kisser and will kiss your lips raw! If Fizzle has been harassing her quite a bit Faylene will take refuge with me and wants to be tucked into my shirt.
Fizzle my sable mutt is an absolute rag doll! She's gone from finger stapler to absolute mush. She loves to be massaged and brushed and will lay like a limp noodle for an hour or more while being primped. She gives smooches too.
Roman my huge champagne boy is still in the process of learning that hands will not hurt him. Right now he freely chooses to climb upon my lap and offer kisses on my lips. While he is busy smooching me I slowly, gently caress his body. Then he gets down. Considering he has punctured my nose and pierced my eyebrow his willing kisses are welcome! I still have to handle him with gloves on, because he indicates that is what makes him feel comfortable. Roman absolutely delights in a game of tag when the others have had enough of his rough housing. He is still learning how to wrestle properly with me.
All these guys will sleep in the extra covers hanging off at my feet.
Fozzy(RIP) a champagne boy was a cuddle bug. He loved to be brushed and held. But he never gave any actual kisses - his version of a kiss was a brief touch of his nose against your nose.
Josie(RIP) a panda was a willing cuddle bug, kisser and often would choose to sleep with me.
I see their willingness to cuddle more from personality aspect and what they've experienced in the way of human interaction. Josie was my first ferret and constant companion, she was an only ferret too for the majority of her short life. So I think her cuddliness was a natural thing.
The rest of my crew have all been adopted and have had various degrees of interaction with people, some negligent, some abusive. So they've had to overcome some ingrained thought processes.
Cheers, Kim

I haven't noticed a big difference between the colours as far as snuggly or not. What I have noticed is that my Path Valleys are much bigger snugglers than my Marshals. Now, you're more likely to be bitten by a Path Valley...they appear to be bigger and more aggressive but are much more into being picked up and snuggled. Now all my guys (except Napoleon, my snuggler par-excellance, a dark sable and a Path Valley) are rescues that come from various backgrounds and levels of abuse and neglect, so maybe it's not fair to gage. I find my boys more into being held and snuggled, one of my biggest snugglers is Odin a large late alter albino that was turned into me last year. He will snuggle by the hour if you let him. He quite often goes to fund raisers for various shelters in the area, and shares the limelight with Napoleon (dark sable), Attila (a light coloured deaf blaze), Loki, (a graying sable, I think he was a light colour too) and Ghenghis (a dark sable). All these guys I trust in public to behave and to snuggle if asked to. I think that it may just be in the nature of the beast....each ferret is an individual and like some people ... some like to snuggle and others are all business ciao

Don't ask me where but I read somewhere there is a study going on about this. I hope I can find out where. But as for the kisses it is strange Rolo will not give kisses I think her version of a kiss is also putting her nose to mine. Mr. bean will also lick your lips raw and Loki kisses when LOKI wants to kiss. But neither Loki or Mr. Bean like to be held. I am working on Mr. bean trying to hold him more and not let him down when HE wants down and taking him around the house to do laundry and such. I did that all the time with Rolo when she was a kit to get her to bond with me. Worked like a charm. Makes me wonder how she would behave now had I not done all the interacting with her.

If you can grab Apple (sable) when he is in a deep sleep, you can count on at least 10mins of snuggle time, and if he's really comfortable he could cuddle for an hour. But otherwise, he just wants down. I put him over my shoulder like you would to burp a baby, and sometimes he will hang out there while I pet him and talk softly to him. Otherwise, he's not much for cuddling.
Kiwi (DEW) loves to be held, loves to walk around with me. I put her over a shoulder like I do with Apple except she can walk back and forth across my shoulders without falling off. She will sit up there while I walk around, and then start walking down my arm before it appropriate! But she follows me around and begs to be picked up. Apple also follows me around, but for a chance to play instead.
