When I get up in the mornings to let the babies out sometimes I have to get a wet q-tip and clean out this muscousy stuff from the inner eye area. It is only a tiny bit and when he naps during the day he doesn't wake up with it. It is making me curious what it could be. Anyone have any ideas?
It isn't crusty or anything or green. It is white

Does he dig in the potty box and push the litter aroun with is nose? If he's acting normal otherwise, he may be getting dust in his eyes from the litter if he's digging in it. He may also spend time checking out a dusty corner (like under bed)
If the inside of the eyelids are red, he may have an eye infection. He may also have the flu, Does he have a runny nose?
Initial signs of distemper typically include discharge from the eyes and nose. It he's been vacinated and shows no other symptom other than "eye dirt" in the morning, distemper would be unlikely.
It sounds to me like he might be getting into something dusty if hes acting normal. -jennifer

Doesn't sound like distemper at all, plus he's had his first booster...does he shove his face around in the potty box??? Seems like the little boys are champions at this. Or he may a little eye infection going on because he did get some dusty stuff in his eyes. There is another possibility... some ferrets have lacrimal ducts that don't open fully. The lacrimal duct is a tiny duct that goes between the eyes to the throat for drainage. This isn't a terribly uncommon thing, and the ducts usually open as they grow. One of my ferrets had this as a kit on one side only - his one eye watered. He was almost a year before the duct opened. Check inside the nostrils for signs of dust/lint. sometimes with ferrets that play in the potty box or have lacrimal ducts that have not yet fully developed, you'll see a bit of dust in the nostril(s). The vet can put drops in the eyes that glow in the dark. They turn the lights off and check for drainage of the eyes through the lacrimal ducts. You can see the glowing in the dark stuff start to appear in the nostrils. Cool! Since your little guy seems to be feeling, eating as usual, same energy level, etc., I suspect the cause is something like play habits or lacrimal ducts that are still developing. let us know what the vet says! Hope all is going well -jennifer
