Does there need to be litter? Can I use paper? My fert will go right outside the box, clean or dirty. And digs in it, clean or dirty. Do you think using paper to line it could help?

There are people who use newspaper....not shredded in a box but put down to cover cage bottom.

I use paper for De, because she WILL NOT use a litter box. Oh well...she is 8 years old, she's an old lady that is set in her ways! However, I still made her switch to raw She wasnt too set in her ways there!

Awesome, thanks. I think I recall a rescue ferret who was on newspaper due to not liking litter. If I could I would try different litters, but I just don't have that choice. Litter is costly. But newspaper I can do.

Newspaper works great! Easy to clean up and absorbs odor quite well. I use newspaper in several places around the house.
Cheers, Kim
