Hello everyone,
I am a fellow fuzzie lover from Oregon. I am a small animal veterinarian and have had ferrets for 5 years. I currently have eleven ferrets and am the process of introducing raw and whole prey to their diet.
I have recently acquired two twelve week old males from a private breeder who are doing well with the switch and eat anything. The other nine are somewhat resistant, I have two interested in whole prey and two that will eat raw eggs so far. My old guy has insulinoma and I would really like him to switch but have to watch him like a hawk for low blood sugar episodes.
Looking forward to reading all the good information.
Dr. Christy

Oh a vet! EXCELLENT! Dr. Christy I must say I am THRILLED to have you! Unfourtunately many vets dont realize the importance of a raw/whole prey diet for pets. You will be a wonderful asset to our forum! Good for you for looking into a HEALTHY diet for your animals! Switching fuzzies can be such a pain, but luckily we have a talented group of people here that has experience switching all kinds of ferrets (yes, even insulinomics). To get started I would start a thread over in the "Natural Diet Newbies" section of the nutrition forum. Be sure to copy/paste the info from this thread: holisticferret.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=newbie&action=display&thread=822 into your first post. Continue to post updates on the status of the switch in this thread and our members can assist you by offering tips and suggestions for getting your kids to switch. I have a method in mind for you that can probably help your kiddos to make the switch with relative ease. Its great to have you here! I hope you stick around!

Hi and Welcome Dr Christi A vet and a convert..got to love it Switching little fuzzbutts can be so difficult sometimes. They're like little children who can't see a good reason for eating what's good for them. The one consolation is that once they're convinced, it's so awesome to watch them bloom and become the furry little hellions that they're supposed to be. My little Babushka (a recent turn in and convert to raw at 9 yrs of age) would do nothing but sleep, when I got her. I had some grave concerns as not only her age but to be placed in rescue at such a late time in her life she might suffer shelter shock. My deepest concern was that she would just curl up and die. I did discover the poor little thing is blind, but now after doing a complete conversion to raw she has become an active and happy little thing, bouncing and dooking everywhere. A raw diet provides so much more than just good nutrition, it provides them with the ultimate stimulation, sometimes eliminating behavioural issues as well as helping to cut down on odour and dental problems. It's great to have you on board. If you have questions regarding converting stubborn fuzzybutts, please feel free to ask. They're a fantastic, friendly group here and so ready and willing to answer questions and come up with suggestion Don't be a stranger, we love pictures ciao

Private breeder? Where from? quote] Thanks for all the welcomes! Everyone at work thinks I am crazy for adding the two new kits onto my existing crew of nine but you know how ferret math is! Anyway, I got my most recent additions from Linda at Camelot Ferrets in Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
