Wait. What is the difference between a rebate and a stimulus? I got my tax rebate, but we get a stimulus too? What the heck is that?

The rebate is the money back you get from filing your taxes. The stimulus check is a thing Bush did this year to help boost the economy. If you have worked at least 6 months last year to the time you filed your taxes you can get at the minimal $300-$600 depending on how much you made. If you are married and or have kids you can get $1000 or more. So since I made less than $3000 but more than $2000 I am supposed to get $300. Everyone who filed Taxes is supposed to get one. You should have already gotten your letter in the mail around April explaining about the Tax stimulus and blah blah. You then get a letter about a week before the actual check saying how much the check is supposed to be for. I googled Tax stimulus and this is the first page that comes up. I plan on trying to contact them and see where mine is. A lot of peoples checks got sent to the wrong addresses. So theirs are being delayed. I think thats what happened to mine. Hopefully no-one has stolen my identity. www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=179181,00.html

Yes your rebate is what you've been getting every year since you had a job that you paid taxes. On your W2s you select 1 or 0. 1 you claim yourself, 0 means someone else is probably claiming you (for example your parents). I'm not sure if you claim 1 or 0 which one sends you a bigger rebate check, but there is a difference. Anyway, your stimulus is because Bush screwed up the economy, now he wants to send us a check for $300-600 for us to go out and buy more things! While btw, many people are in debt because the economy sucks, so all these people just need to pay off their debt! Me, I just plucked it in my savings, grabbed some good interest off it and now using my savings to pay for LASIK.
However, I didn't really need the $600 to do that, I could already afford it, so its not because of this check I am buying it. In other words, I didn't help the economy. I would need thousands of dollars to help this economy. Most of the people in debt have high credit card debt, or like me, student loans ranking $20,000 or more! I'm right at $20,000 so if I get more money, thats where it is going. I won't be going on some crazy expensive vacation, buying a car, or going on a clothes shopping spree. And thats what Bush wants us to do, stay in credit card debt!

I got my stimulus a while ago... but I never got a letter in the mail saying I was going to get one My friend JUST got his this week... apparently it's both because of the last digits of his soc. and because he did his through Turbo Tax, which uses a third party, making things much more difficult? But I used turbo tax as well, and got mine fairly soon. It seems like some screwy business to me, really.

Well I found out some bad news last night. On this letter I got I was under the understanding since I had worked for at least 6 months which was supposed to be once of the things that made you eligible that I would get $300. Well I checked IRS.gov and appaerently you aren't eligible if you made under $3000....soooo That means all this time I have been waiting for no reason and I get NO check. Sux for meeee

I talked to some friends last night who haven't gotten their checks yet! So some of you aren't the only ones.
That blows you don't even get one!

I got mine right away as direct deposit and got the letter saying I was getting my stimulus money a few weeks later. Could you call the IRS and have them look into it for you? I called them and had them look up some information for me when i was trying to file my taxes. Their number is listed on the IRS web site. Now if I remember correctly I was on hold for a bit (when ever i'm on hold I put the phone on speaker and mess with my computer) but the person I talked to was very helpful.

Thanx but I checked the site and I didn't make enough money to get one. What a shame.
