Hey guys, I'm Ashley. I live in Florida and have five crazy ferrets, Tinkerbell, Slinky, Rogue, Bear and Twist. I've decided to start feeding raw because I know it's so much better for them and I've gotten really lucky with Bear (he's eight and has no problems except for a little hindleg weakness from being kept in a cage for months at a time and he has cataracts). I don't want to risk my ferrets health when I know that feeding them raw is so much better for them.
We actually fed two mice yesterday and our two youngest ferrets were the ones who ate them. Tinkerbell ate half and got bored and Twist tried to hide the mouse because he was so proud of himself.
It's nice to meet all of you. Any advice you may have to help the switch is greatly appreciated.

We are happy to have you here! Im thrilled that you've decided to research a healthier lifestyle for your ferrets. Even your 8 year old can benefit (De, in my siggy is 8 years old and adrenal and she was recently switched to a raw diet. She currently eats a ground raw diet (with the occasional purreed mouse) but we are working on getting her onto whole raw foods.) Take a look around the nutrition section. When you are ready to make the switch, go to "Nature Diet Newbies" and start a thread where you post updates on the progress of your babies as they make the switch to a natural diet. You are also welcome to ask as many questions as you want. Ask those in the "Newbie Questions" section (in the nutrition section). I hope you are able to make use of our forum. I love to personally assist anyone that starts, so if you DO start to make the switch, try and post updates daily (so I can moniter your progress). Welcome aboard!

Hi Ashley and Welcome to you and your fuzzbutts Don't count out on Bear not reaping the benefits of your adventure into natural feeding. He may not take to the prey diet right off (he may never but will probably eat raw) but he can switch without too much difficulty. There are many different ways to switch the oldsters over, some easy some more difficult. Sometimes, it's a time of trial and error as each time we try and accommodate the individual furbaby. The one thing that you have to keep in mind is that because of health issues you can't let him go without food for as long as some of the younger fuzzies. Ask questions, read previous messages. We're here to give you a helping hand. Enjoy the experience. Yes, you may get frustrated. It took me a month to convince Babushka (9yrs old and partially blind) that raw food was indeed food. This past couple of weeks have been a breakthrough for her though and she went from being fed, to eating the food on her own to enjoying whole chicken necks and quail pieces. So anything is possible. Hope to hear from you again. ciao
