Question to help people who still feed kibble or some kibble....since dry kibble can be damaging to the teeth and ferrets like cats are meant to get their water from food would it be better to feed moistened kibble permanently? This just dawned on me since I was giving the girls a NUPOR treat and they LOVE mush anyways.

Thats what I would do. But bear in mind that kibble (dry or wet) doesnt clean teeth like raw or whole prey. So if you feed kibble you need to brush their teeth DAILY to ensure that they dont get peridontal disease.

Please also note aside from the lack of teeth cleaning ability that moistened kibble is more prone to bacterial growth than dry. This is of course excluding whatever bacteria is already been allowed into the kibble in the first place. ciao

You'll need to replace the wet kibble every 4-6 hours

would brushing their teeth with plain warm water and a finger toothbrush be best? Or use all natural pet toothpaste?

When I had kibble-fed ferrets, I brushed their teeth one a week with a cat tooth brusk and cat tooth paste. I periodicallly scaled their teeth using a dental tool ( about 4 times per year). I never had their teeth cleaned by a vet becaue they never got periodontal disease. And my kids took all their pearly whites to the bridge!
I beleive the cat tooth pastes have enzymes that help break down the tartar on their teeth, but I'm not 100% certain about that. Plus my kids liked the taste! -jennifer
