So last week Apple was having these funny colored poos. Yellows and greens, and they pretty much looked like what I think hairballs look like. This has happened once before, back in February, and the vet gave me an antibiotic then. I guess you could say it helped, it certainly didn't hurt anything. Anyway, so he gave me that, but since then Apple's poos are fine. Oh, and I also didn't give Apple the antibiotic, this was on Friday, because I was gone all weekend and I'm supposed to be out of town again the next 2 days, and then I don't want to ask anyone to give him this stuff because its really hard! It's called Metronidazole liquid, smells gross and Apple spits it out. So its not easy to give.
Anyway, the yellow and green hairy poos happened twice in 2 days, in between regular looking ones. I was giving Vaseline because he is shedding now (is this the wrong time for that?), so I think that helped. Plus then I gave pumpkin and that also helped clear it up. Anyway, it is no longer weird looking.
Should I still give the antibiotic? The vet tested him and didn't find any parasites. I don't think he got anything from Kiwi because her poos are slightly moist, but not funny colors. I was hoping to find a natural way of dealing with this without giving him the antibiotic. Would that be ok? Mustelidmusk suggests using papain for digestion. I'm waiting to hear back from her (see Kiwi's diet thread) to see if I bought the right thing before using it. Is there anything else anyone suggests that I could use to help his tummy or digestion? I'd rather not use the antibiotic, seeing as how he doesn't have a bug. What about a probiotic?
What does everyone think? Start the antibiotic (use for a week) or skip it and find something natural to supplement to his diet, either daily/weekly/monthly or on a set schedule?
THANKS!
