I keep in contact with several of the people who I adopted ferrets from. One of them contacted me this week saying that her sister also has a ferret she can no longer take care of. This sister apparently bought the ferret from a guy who took him to an outdoor game on leash and harness in hopes of finding someone to buy him. The sister paid $100 for him, and took the ferret home not knowing the first thing about ferret care.
Several days passed, and the sister called Megan (the person I had bought Harley from) asking about ferret care. She didn't want to spend lots of money on ferret food, and has been feeding him dog food instead. The sister decided ferrets were just too expensive for her tastes, so she told Megan to find a good home for her ferret.
Megan called me, since she knew I had given a good home to her little guy.
The sister brought the ferret to Megan today. It is a sable male, 1 1/2 years old. He was being kept in a cage this week...outside in the heat. When the sister brought the ferret to Megan, he was panting, rapid heart rate and no water whatsoever in that cage. Poor guy. Not only has he been bumped from home to home, but he has spent the last several days in the elements because "he smells funny". And no water. And crappy dog food.
Needless to say, I was 99% sure I would adopt him. But after hearing about what he has been through, I am 110% sure about him now. Poor guy. I am hoping to get him tomorrow.
I am going to need another name.
