The new ferret (still haven't completely decided on a name) has settled in very well. I'm not too sure that he trusts his new home, but I give him a week...by then he should realize this is his home forever. I know that the 7 I have rescued from the community is but the tip of the iceburg. So many out there whose stories we'll never know. So many cruelties...heartaches...I wish I could do more as I am sure many of you feel the same. Unfortuanately, 10 is our maximum limit with these guys. I feel bad knowing I can't do more for others that need a loving home...... ....I do have a brother who is interested in ferrets though...

I think we are going to stick with the name "Raider" for ferret 10. My mom, who hates ferrets, is concerned that my large crew is going to literally "eat" my 4 month old baby. I don't know if is because some of my guys are eating raw, or if it is just the idea that they are "rodents" and will eat anything. They aren't wild animals....I am so tired of her comments. The house stinks (in her mind), and now they are all going to band up and eat us all. She is nuts!!! Soooo....I have nicknamed Raider "Dingo"...you know the saying "the dingo ate my baby" (spoken in a thick Austrailian accent). I haven't told my mom yet, but I am sure to be amused!

Haha! I laugh out loud, everytime I see the "My 'final' ferret.." yeah right....we all know how that goes...honestly, if it weren't for everything I am going through right now & for the next couple of months, I'd have already told Julie to make Kerry reserve that black mitt hob for me! You have no idea how hard this is to wait...ok, maybe you guys do know...lol

Everytime I talk to my mom she asks how my ferrets are doing..I tell her and she goes "they're gross"..."they smell"..."they look like rats"....ummm then why ask me? I tell her mom they don't smell..they're not rats and why would you say they stink? She says because she thinks they're ugly and in the petstores they stink. I told her maybe its due to the fact that they nasty kibble and are forced to sleep right next to their litter box? She then switches the subject. I just hate it...I mean don't ask me if you're going to talk crap about them.

Well, I just got off the phone with my younger brother (who still lives at home with my parents). He said that my house and life style has been a heated topic of conversation over the past few days. I HAVE HAD IT! The next time the topic comes up, I am going to lay down new rules. If my house offends you, if you can't stand my pets....DON'T come over. It isn't like I pick on her life style, or the things she does (at least, not to her face). It is rude.
In any case....I am happy. That is truley all that matters.

My mom knows better, I'm pretty opinionated...lol Good for you stand your ground...plus, you can look at it this way....they are focused on YOU...kinda like gossipers, they are spending all their time talking about YOU...lol I know it's hard not to let it get to you, especially when it's family, but what's most important, is your furkids make YOU happy, as will all of us! =)

Well, you know I already consider all on this forum as a kind of "extended" family of sorts. I think I talk to you all more than I do my parents anyhow! With that much time investment, you all might as well be family! ...and at least you all understand being ferret owned!

Sometimes we do have to stand our ground and put our own family members in place. I think parents naturally feel they still have a hold on their children and can say or do as they please without worrying about how we really feel. My parents think they still have that hold on me. Its stupid because when I even begin to point out their flaws they get heated. Last night while talking to my mom she says that the min-pin I had given her in which she gave to my uncle is now having to be rehomed once again..why you ask? Because the poor puppy has mange and no one wants to deal with it. I'm so furious about this and I told my mother..never again will I EVER get you guys any pets. She then starts talking about how when she has funds she would like a boxer..I'm like mom please don't ever get any animals...you and pop are not very good with them and now this poor little puppy has to be rehomed yet again because you two could not handle her as small as she was. This ticked my mom off..she didn't want to hear it! So its real easy to sit there and talk about how "smelly" my animals are, but when push comes to shove its a nono..Jaycee stand your ground and tell them like it is.

Thanks. I will! I am sort of glad to know others are having similar problems. It is sort of sad too. It shouldn't be this way, but I guess sometimes we all have to stand our grounds with what we believe in....even if it is difficult to do.

Awww Im glad you feel that way You guys are like family to me too Try not to let the rude comments get to you. I KNOW its hard having family that doesnt understand. Ferrets are natural feeding are what I have dedicated my life to. Only recently has my father started to inquire about natural feeding and take me seriously (Im helping him put his 1yr old golden retriever onto a half raw/half kibble diet). He still doesnt get the whole ferret thing, but he comes over to visit tommorow and for the first time ever he will get to meet my little ones. We'll see how that goes.

My step son has actually started spending more time at his g/f house cause he says that the ferrets make the whole house smell. I tell him that he's an adult and if he doesnt like the ferrets then he can finally move out My mom did not care for ferrets when we first got them but she now is in love with all of them . We all understand you Jaycee

I am stuck on the name finding thing. I thought Raider would be it....but the other day he was begging for food so I said "you are such a mooch." Sooo....what about Mooch as a name? (Dingo is still his nickname for my mothers sake) .........my baby still has all ten fingers and toes, just thought you'd like to know!

I can certainly understand where you're coming from in regards to family members not liking your choice of furchild. My mother refuses to come to my house because I keep ferrets. She says they give her the creeps, she doesn't like the way they move. Personally, that's cool with me. If she wants to see me she knows where to find me....with a whole mess of fuzzbutts Stick to your guns girl, there's no other way you're going to be happy if you bend all the time to accomodate others. I absolutely refuse. I think Mooch is a fantastic name, if that's what he does. My son named a rescue dog that we got Mushu (after the silly dragon on Mulan) As Mushu was such a mooch, his nickname was Moochie. I like it ciao
