Well the clicker training never worked for Apple. Eventually I gave up, I don't think I was fast enough with the click!
However, I have trained him to come to me. All I do is point to the floor, and he comes over right away! But he has to be looking at me, I haven't been able to grab his attention yet with a sound!
I trained him because he has been trying to jump over 14" of plywood, and yes he can! to get into my bedroom. So I call his attention and point down, and little by little I started to move away from my room so he had farther to go. Every time I point down and he comes over I give a treat. If I have to go get him after pointing and him not coming over, he doesn't get a treat.
I'm hoping to use this training to do other things, like maybe get him to lay on my shoulder/chest because he's too bottom heavy to be able to sit on my shoulder!
Kiwi (formerly known as Glacier), I'm sure she will be able to sit on my shoulder easy. That will be so fun!
I will update this thread if I can teach them both anything else!

Well actually, the whole clicker thing never really took off. I was just too slow. However training him to come (when he is feeling good) is fairly easy. Kiwi I don't need to train, she follows me all over! I don't even need to train her to roll over, she already does constantly. If I can get Apple to do anything, I'll let ya know!

training a ferret ? you mean Ferret training you ? haha.. Anyway I never had good responces to clicker training ,I trained lots of dogs for differnt service work (arson, rescue, aid) and found hand and verble singles work the best .the key to verble is always the tone .calm and deeper then my normal voice works best for me . I havent tried it with the ferts yet I only had Hershy for a few weeks and JD for 4 days and learning about there behavors, but with most animals they reconise voice commands better if done in a differnt tone then your normal voice .

I agree, hand signals is working nicely and my tone of voice catches his attention. Of course with Kiwi, if I jsut stand up she comes over. Always the inquisitive one!
