Master Toby as learned to climb out of his playpen all by himself. Nothing to stand on, all jumping and pulling. I was not a happy camper when I came home from work today to find him playing in the kitchen. Im guessing he had only been out for about a half hour based on what he did and didnt get into.
I have my FN142 sat inside a playpen, five panel by three panel, its a little bigger area then a 9 foot x 5 foot square area. I leave the bottom door of the cage open so he can go in and out. That set up has always been my 'cage/safe area'. I am really bad about putting him in the cage and locking the doors. Since its in my bedroom I just havent seen the need to close him up tight.
That is before this.
Because of the size, there isnt going to be a good way to cover it with a mat the way you could normal playpen. Which will be the way that I fix this with the 8 sided playpen that is set up in the living room.
My question is: has anyone else done something to their larger playpen area to stop there fuzbutt from climbing?
I dont want to have to lock him up just because Im sleeping or at work. (thats about 16 to 18 hours on a bad day) But Im not okay with trusting him to be alone in my room with me not being home.
I will try and get picutures posted in the next day or so if that would help. (i need to learn how to use the new camera first)

Here is a link to some pictures of the current set up. After I removed both dig boxes and tube and another box from his play/cage area. s280.photobucket.com/albums/kk194/tobysmindy/Cage%20and%20Playpen%20Pictures/I have to do something fast about him. We have had a couple of very close calls!!! Last night he was out in my bedroom and climbed INTO the playpen. Only as he slide down the bars his back left hip area got caught between the top of the to panels. He was hanging by his leg by the time I got to him. This morning he was in the playpen and climbed out. On the way out he ended up getting his head stuck between the corner of the playpen and a book case. He was choking when I saw him. He seams to be alright. But he scared the crap out of me. All i wanted to do was hold him, all he wanted to do was get down and play.

My ferrets are all free roam about the only thing I could suggest it another complete set of panels then assemble so they are standing on lop of each other, this will make your "wall" twice as high which with luck he can't climb over.
Try the double stack before investing the bucks.
But once they learn to do something-they rarely unlearn it! Good luck !
Cheers, Kim

I don't have any advice, but I feel your pain. Apple jumps up and claws at my plywood divider, almost 14" high, to get into my bedroom. It wouldn't be so bad if he couldn't do it, but he can! He will hang there with butt outside, and head inside my room waiting to continue the flop onto the other side. Everytime I see it I scoop him up and take him away! Sigh, theres almost no stopping him. I've started spraying the board with Fooey then taking him over to smell it to try to teach him no.

It was Better when I could put both the dig boxes in there. At least I didnt feel bad for him when I went to work or wanted to go out for the day. But at this point I cant trust him to be alone in there. He does this pogo jump to get up and over. The eight panel in the living room is now just a joke for him. Hes up and over in 30 seconds. When Im letting the dog out to go to the bathroom, tobys at the door before I can close it. Not good. Today Im going to go and buy one of those floor/cover mat and see if that stops him in there. I need to have someplace safe on that floor of the house that I can put him when im doing something he cant help with. I just dont want to see him in in cage all the time. As for the door way.. I have a few things that I do for toby that so far he cant climb over. If you take a look at this link you can kind of see it in the corner by the wall. i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk194/tobysmindy/Cage%20and%20Playpen%20Pictures/CatToyNChewy.jpgThe duck tape was to save the very old drywall from being dug at. There is no footplate there. I bought a large plastic sheet from Lowe's three inches wider then the door and stands high enough that I can just step over - needs to be at least 24" high. I took a cheap molding and created a C bracket that holds the sheet in place. Because the sheet is wider then the door it bows and holds itself in place. I have also seen people use Velcro to hold the sheet in place. Then you just need to get the sheet as wide as the doorway. I also have a baby gate that I use to stop him from going into the kitchen. I rent a townhouse and have very little that I can do to stop him from getting into the cabinets. I got mine from Km art. When looking at them, you want something solid. You cant use any with the wires that cross. It turns into a ladder for them. I will try and find a link to the one I have. If not this weekend I will take a picture so that you can see it.

Right not I have the plywood velcro'd to my door frame. It worked great for awhile until he found out he could jump it. The kitchen he can't make it in, and no longer tries. But my bedroom he won't stop. Also the floor is uneven. This apartment was built in the 60s and has wood floors (not too pretty), and they door way is warped so nothing lays straight on it.
Eventually I will have to invest in a better door seperator or baby gate.

How about a piece of pvc or other tubing type material that would be slippery, cut a slit in it and attach it to the top of the plywood - then he wouldn't be able to grab on to the top....

Did you ever try this? I'm getting ready to have to make a couple barricades and I was curious if it worked?

Black drainage tubing from lowes stops them in their tracks! cut a slit down the middle of the tube and put it around the top.
