So about how long will raw soup keep in the fridge? I was thinking 3-4 days, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I have duck in there that was fresh from a local farm, too, and I have no idea if that changes things...

I tend not to leave it more than a couple of days. I freeze any extra in ice cube trays, and baggie those when frozen.

Do you ever use the microwave to defrost?

some do, but it's best not to incase you cook it. i have used it to defrost some soup, only 10 seconds at a time

Same here. 5-7 second bursts. You can also put the baggie with soup or meat in a bowl of water to defrost.

If I reduce the power to super low, will it work ok? I'm going to be going out of town for a couple of days and want to be able to leave clear instructions for family members. I'm planning on freezing small bits of soup so its easy to defrost or either not freezing at all, just making it fresh before I go.

If you are only going to be gone for a couple of days, try leaving the one days version out, freeze the second day's, then leave that one in the fridge to defrost before you go.
