Hi Guys, thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Just a bit of an update. Napoleon came home today. The measures taken yesterday, have helped clear some of the fluid from his chest cavity and around his lungs and heart. Napoleon is in heart failure. He's responding to his heart medication but still in considerable distress and is very depressed. I'm not sure I'm doing him any favours by going with these measures or not. I will give him time and more medications, he's on lasix and fortekor. I'm to take him back into the vet for further xrays at the end of the month. He's eaten his soupy very well (he never was able to push away from the bowl ) but will not eat on his own, which in my experience usually signifies that he's doing this for me, not himself. Keep your fingers crossed, I know that with this disease I"m only buying time. I'm broken hearted, I never wanted to say goodbye to my little boy so soon Each farm ferret has it's own disease, marshals kids get adrenal....Path Valley's suffer heart conditions. You can't walk away from it. Give your babies a special hug tonight, you never know what tomorrow brings. Our little ones are only here for the short run, rarely a long run. So on those days that you have too much to do, and can't seem to think because there aren't enough minutes to the day....spend fifteen extra minutes with your furbabies.....just because ciao

Were they able to do any x-rays after they had removed the fluid? I hope he starts to feel a little better soon =/

Yes, they ran another series of plates this morning before I picked him up. We're hoping that by being on the meds for the next couple of weeks that we will be able to see more of the problem and be better able to complete the diagnosis. Unfortunately, no matter what we find the outcome is the same Mayhem lived for 8 months after diagnosis, but he had suffered a saddle thrombosis about 10 months prior to that (seemingly this is not uncommon in cardiomalyopathy cases) At the moment there is so much fluid in Napoleon's chest that we cannot tell exactly what we're dealing with. We know that it's not pneumonia, so now it's just trying to narrow down the type of heart issue ciao

At least he's home for now. We'll keep offering up prayers for him, and hope for the best. A healing candle is lit.

I'm glad he's hanging in there right now and will keep thinking of him and praying for him. I was not aware that Path Valley's were prone to heart issues. Poor boy.

I am glad to hear that Napoleon is home, but I am so sorry that he is sick. I am sure that he knows that you love him and are doing the best you can for him, and that is really all you can ask. Love and kisses to him!

Happy thoughts for Napoleon. He is scared, but he knows you love him. He's working with you to buy time to say the long goodbye--however much he needs to give you more stories and pleasure. We had the same with our family dog last year, he hung around a year to be with his precious cats and keep them warm.
