I was going to ask in my mentor thread but i want other opinions as well. i have a feeding den and boxes for my ferrets to stash food in, but why is it that they take the food out of the feeding den and hide it under the bed? any suggestions of things i could do to get them to not do this

If you are putting the food in the den and the ferrets are removing it, try putting the food just outside the den. Tomichi likes to eat very privately - AWAY from the main food source. If I put the food outside the den, she'll grab a chunk and take it inside. -jennifer

And if they keep stashing it elsewhere regardless, take it away, and keep putting it back in the feeding den- even if ferret is still attached to the food

Try tying the food to the den there are a number of people on the list who use shower curtain hooks to keep the brats from running away with the food. I'm just trying to figure out how to keep the bowls where I leave them as I know have a bunch of brats who feel that stealing not only the food but the whole blasted bowl of food is the way to go . ciao

When I can, I use the shower hooks (works really well on wings). When it comes to just muscle meats, I chop them up and put them in a bowl away from the den.

She also steals the dang pooper scooper every chance she gets, I'll scoop a box, turn my back for a second and its gone! Such a brat...

How about putting another feeding den there, then?

i feel your pain...I can't leave food in the cage when it's open cause they take off with it out of the cage. As well I put a feeding den where they like to eat the food and they just go else where now. argh
