I`m not sure on the heat issue, but I know my sadie has tried to take off with a rice pack, and even managed to rip a hole in it.... so might cause a hazard if he eats it.

I'd just give a lot of extra blankets, and he'll snuggle up and stay warm. Or you could make him a sweater of an old tube sock. Just cut a hole for his head, and for his front legs

I'd load Henery up with some extra warm blankets... When it started getting cold here I had some left over odd shaped fleece scraps that I put in a small rubbermaid type box for the fuzz and they all curl up and stay warm together... also if you have the ability too maybe something like this comfy cube www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2753264&lmdn=Small+Pet I have one in browns and blues and my crew love it and I'm pretty sure on more than one occasion they have maxed out what ever the weight limit may be because I have pulled as many as 7 ferrets out of it!

our house is always at 68 and it doesnt seem too cold for my guys. Just give them blankies to snuggle in they will be fine if your really worried maybe toss the blankies in the dryer for a few minutes before you give it to them. Or maybe if you dont have cord chewers you can put a heating paid on low under the blankies. I have one I put under a pet bed (use to be for my cat but now my ferrets have confiscated it) they all burrow in that bed with some blankies are are as happy as can be.

I try to make sure things are in the mid-60s, but remember that until recently ferrets (and people!) had to endure much colder temperatures; that's why they have winter coats, after all!
I have several pairs of old ankle socks that I've outgrown; I put them into Kiwi's cage, and the promptly lined both her nests with them and curled up inside.
