My guys have recently had problems hitting the litter box when they're out. All of them are 100% perfect inside the cage, but when they're out for play time in their room/my office they go infront of, next to, or just pick a spot. I can't seem to get them trained.
The odd thing is, the first week they were here, both Pita and Spice were perfect. Now, they used to have their cage in the office and Sugar and Spice often returned to the cage to use the litter box. I've since moved their cage to the living room, possibly that change has had an effect on their potty habits.
I want to give them playtime in the living room but it's far from ferret proof and I don't want them soiling the carpet there. I'm thinking of putting down some moveable vinyl flooring and creating an attached play area with two 11 paneled + an 8 paneled playpen, attached to their cage. Obviously their toys, tubes, tunnels and such would be in the play area. This would let them be in the living room with me and also give them more play time than the 2-3 hours they have now. (I always like to supervise but I have limited time I can spend in the office.)
These are the pictures I stumbled on that gave me the idea.
I know it sounds expensive, but we live in an apartment and I don't want to ruin the carpets and I can't replace them. Currently, I'm cleaning the carpet at least 2-3 times during a 2 hour play time, even though they have 4 litter boxes available to them.
Does anyone see anything I should change in this plan?
