So I told myself, no more ferrets.. no way no how! 14 is enough. Everytime we go to the ferret vet we stop at a pet shop called Harps exotics, we look at the ferret stuff.. sometimes they have cool toys or neat cat toys we can share with the ferrets.. my boyfriend and I get there and he goes straight to the babies. I said no, absolutely not! He gets the lady to open the cage and he starts playing with these absolutely adorable pair of babies. I held firm! No! We start talking to the woman about our ferrets and she tells us about hers (Finally someone who doesnt give me that crazy look when I say I have ferrets!) She then preceeds to say that she has a little girl in the back that she wants to show us. She brings her out and this baby is skin and bones. Marshall farms sent her to the shop and she wasnt even weaned. This pet shop isnt the best in the world, but they do have an exotic vet on call who use to work for the zoo. He came in and checked her over and started her on a bottle right away. They had to bottle feed her for two more weeks. Looking at this little girl about broke my heart, I almost cried. She was so sad looking, so thin.. I just wanted to scoop her up and take her home with me right there. It's been two weeks since I saw her and yesterday I had to take Dean to my vets so we could confirm he had adrenal disease and needed a Deslorelin implant. I ended up stopping at Harps and I walked back knowing if she was there I would leave with her. I thought about her everyday.. Sure enough they had just put her out and she was sleeping in a cube. I didn't need another ferret but she just called to me I guess. I scooped her up and she promptly gave me sleepy ferret kisses and curled up in my arms. All the staff gave her good bye kisses, they had all taken turns feeding her. I brought her into the vets with me and he looked her over and said she looked great. I brought her home and set up an isolation cage in my bedroom. She took to my ferrets current soupie mix ( trying to switch over to raw, getting there slowly!) litterally inhaled it like she was starving to death, her little belly was so round. She absolutely adores playing in the tubes and packing peanuts... we havent named her yet, the pet shop was calling her Berry. I've been thinking about naming her Gracie... She is a panda, not sure if shes deaf or not but she's the sweetest thing in the world, gives lots of kisses and never bites. So here's my new girl I had not intended to let any of my ferrets be around her but Vaeda snuck in the bedroom and while I was refilling the water dish she climbed up in bed and started giving the baby kisses. *sigh* oh well, i don't think ECE is an issue.. the woman said all of her stools have been great, and all of her poops so far have looked normal. Thats it for now, maybe she'll wake up soon and I can get some better pictures!

OH MY GOD. She's beautiful. Heck, I already love her! It is horrible that Marshall's sent her away at such a young age.If they're not weaned they're not ready to leave mum! She's a pretty girl. Her coat looks a bit dull but raw will fix that right up. <3 Ooooh! She's so gorgeous and so is Miss Vaeda. I know that with ferrets, we always say, "no more" but when we see one that calls to us or one in need, we can't resist. Thank you for giving her a home and love, after having such a rough start in life.

She's adorable. That's how I rescued Nicodemus, a baby who should never have been shipped yet . Would it break the bank to "not" ship the late litter. Would it be so difficult to wait for the next shipment out . Your little one was lucky, even though the pet store isn't the best, they cared enough to do something. I've seen these little last litter furkids who don't get that care...they just fade away Thank you for taking care of her, for taking her in. She will thank you many times over. You will be amazed at her progress when you get her eating the raw. I couldn't believe the difference in Nico. ciao

*SHRIEKS* "A BABBYYYYYY!!!!" (Sorry, had to get that out of my system.) I love her story! Would they not allow her to be sold until they had finished weaning her, or would they let people buy and bottle feed themselves? Wow, it sounds like for a pet store, that pet store is a pretty model example! I love your story of getting her. She's such a cute little baby girl! I totally agree with vkp23! The name Berry is different and very cute! I don't see a ton of unoriginal names with ferrets.

They wouldnt sell her until she was weaned. They have a policy where they do not sell the baby ferrets for a week after they get them. They are vet checked during that time and allowed to settle in. They have them in a sort of.. room, the floor is elevated up to about waist high and it has feline pine all over the bottom, they have a hanging cube, a ball with holes in it and a tube.. so they dont have alot to play with in there but it seems like they take decent care of their ferrets. They could atleast tell me male/female and how old they were.. most pet shops dont have a clue without looking at the paper work.. and they name them, I never see anyone name their ferrets. My last petshop buy was Dozer, they had him in a super tiny 10 gallon aquarium up on the wall with signs all over that said beware I bite. Yeah he's NEVER bitten me even once! He's 6 months old now and weighs almost 4lbs.. real chunker. She has the baby ferret narcolepsy lol, she will bounce around like crazy but the minute I pick her up and stroke her head she falls asleep for 5-10 minutes, then shes awake and off again. She hisses and nibbles all over me if I tickle her belly, then when I stop she gives me kisses... sooo sweet Her coat is a little dull, but it is pretty soft.. like down feathers. I'm sure it will thicken up and be nice and shiney after she's eating more raw.

Baby stuff like that melts all my logic to gibberish. Daw! And baby kisses! The pet shop does sound amazing. As for Dozer, poor guy! So many people just assume ferrets bite and stink without looking into it more and realizing not all are that way and some are deaf. I have a friend who "rescued" hers from a pet store because everyone said, oh, he's nasty, he'll bite you!!! Turns out he was a deafy, poor baby, and he never bit her!

Maybe they just bite the people who deserve it! She is adorable. The mottled color on her head and stomach is interesting. It reminds me of this kid I knew with Downs. He was totally bald and had very mottled birthmarking all over his head. I know pandas are often waardenbergs and waardenbergs are often described as similar to Downs babies so it just made the similarity seem even more so. I also like the name Berry for her - she is berry sweet! I like Gracie too though! You will find that switching her to raw is a piece of cake! As kits, ESPECIALLY that young, they will eat just about anything you put in front of them! Haha I know there are a few breeders on here who feed raw so maybe they will pop in and tell you at what age they can handle chunks and bones...

She's so funny when she eats soupies. She keeps chewing on the front of her chest/legs.. my younger kids use to do that when they were babies too but they grew out of it. I've had to wash her chest off with a rag a couple of times because theres all this food stuck in her fur! I dont know if she has waardensberg or not. She doesnt seem to be abnormal in any way, definently not slow to catch on. She's learning the ropes pretty quick.. and shes quite the climber! Hasnt dooked or made much of any noise yet and she wont respond to squeaker toys so I'm still not sure if she's deaf.. either way I'll love her just the same. One of my girls Church is a pretty bad biter and she's deaf. I call her my little skeeter bug, she's always managing to nip me somewhere. Doesnt stop me from loving on her and giving her kisses though I don't think biting will be an issue with this baby however. I think bottle feeding made her more use to being handled.
