Pigeon?

A friend of my mums came over today, and he works for pest control.. He'd mentioned to me that if I wanted- I could have some pigeons for my ferrets for free as he gives them away to people with ferrets anyway. The problem is- I'm pretty sure that pigeons have diseases and I'd never want to subject them to something like that without knowing. He said that most pigeons have diseases anyway and that he shoots them so they've not been contaminated with any poison. However I'm still not too sure as to what I should do.. The pigeons are wild and would likely go to waste if they weren't used. Apparently he sells/gives them to the owners of working ferrets and says that they *love* them... Does anyone have any idea about whether feeding pigeon to a ferret would be healthy? (I honestly don't think a pigeon would have a lot of meat on it?) And could they develop any diseases from them? Also, has anyone tried feeding their ferrets a pigeon? Haha, I wouldn't have asked but I've seen no questions about anything like this.

I believe that the biggest concern with feeding any wild animal is parasites. If you freeze for at least 2 weeks, those should be taken care of.
I've never fed any pigeon, though. I don't know much about the diseases that they carry/transmit. Hopefully someone with actual experience will chime in! Sorry I couldnt be more helpful!

Ah- don't worry, you were actually very helpful!- I was thinking the same thing about parasites (he said they wouldn't be a problem, though Urh. It's so confusing..) but I'm just trying to figure out whether it'd be dangerous to feed to them or not. No doubt they'd enjoy it- They eat everything. I'd never give them anything without knowing, though.

I've fed my guys pigeons and pigeon eggs. I have a friend who's ferrets eat pigeons on a regular basis....freeze them. It can't be any worse than any other game food. If you're really nervous look it up. My guys love eating them ciao
