After a good bit of research (and plenty of home rearrangement!), I adopted Kiwi, an 8-month-old sprite, from the Texas Ferret Rescue on New Year's Day. She's home and appears to be happy here, and while I got the Ferret Store "natural diet" kibbles, I'm interested in trying a less-processed alternative. The staff at the shelter suggested this forum, and I'm looking forward to learning from the community here!

Hi and Welcome!!! The diet and nutrition sections are full of info and everyone here is awesome! If you decide to switch to raw you can even sign up for a mentor that will help you every step of the way, it's great!!! You might want to check out the post on Only Ferrets in the General Discussion section, it will give you tips on ferret proofing and keeping your Fuzz busy (and out of trouble!)... if you've got questions ask away!

Hello and welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay on the forum, I joined around a week ago and everyone has been incredibly friendly and helpful! ;D If you have any questions, feel free to ask, or take a quick look throughout the forum in search of an answer. If you decide to switch your ferret to a raw/whole prey diet, I think you'll be very pleased with how it effects their energy, health and fur. (I know I was/am!) If you're willing to give a whole/raw diet a try, I'd suggest that you get a mentor, they'll help guide you through every step of the way to getting your ferret(s) on the diet of your choice. It'll probably be somewhat harder if you've got a stubborn ferret like my Loki was, but it'll pay off in the long run. I'd love to see some pictures also! If you've got any questions about the diets, you should probably ask here holisticferret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gen

I've put up some initial pictures of Kiwi's homecoming at this Facebook album! Is there a narrative introduction or quick-start guide to the information on these forums? I appreciate having so many people to ask my questions, but right now I'm not sure what the right questions are to ask.

She's a cutie, and looks like she is having a blast! There's no one area (I don't think), but if you go into the main subjects, i.e. "Nutrition," you'll see categories like "Newbie Questions," and there will be a lot of questions there that could help point you in the right direction (or clarify questions you may have). In "Raw," there are general guides for feeding amounts, etc, too, if that helps you get a clearer picture of what a raw diet is. After the general info that is stickied in each category, pay attention to the first few threads, as those with a red tack are generally stickied because they are helpful ideas or very common questions etc. Hope that helps

Oh, my goodness. Fuzzy love, she's so cute. Welcome to the forum! I'm the resident new fuzzy stalker as I don't have mine yet (still searching for the right one) but I have helped foster in the past. This is a really great forum and everyone here is very willing to help troubleshoot any problems and ease you into the most natural diet and pretty much anything else you can think of.
