The ongoing trials and tribulations of Sugar.
After she passed what we thought was cotton she was eating well and drinking and seemed a little perkier on Friday. She was still having a bit of diarrhea, however. I noticed on Saturday that the evening poo was smaller than I'd seem although there was a lot of urine. Sunday morning, she hadn't poo'd at all although there was plenty of pee.
On Sunday I never saw her eating and she mostly wanted to sleep. I gave her a tsp of pumpkin just in case she got into something again and I removed the new lamb wool lined bed from their cage because it looked like she may have been pulling wool from the corners.
This morning she pooped a normal amount first thing in the morning. Then I watched her try to go twice an hour or so later and all she got were thin little bits. She sniffed at her food and licked a piece, wasn't terribly interested in drinking except what was spilled and went to bed.
I took her back to the vet today who did another series of x rays and ruled about an obstruction. He also said he could see stool in her bowels. They administer sub-q fluids and waited a few hours for her to have a bowel movement. When they got nothing after several hours, they gave her a warm water enema and she finally went. They didn't draw blood but everything else in the exam was normal.
When I picked her up this afternoon, she was much perkier and she looked much more alert than I have seen her be in several days. She ate ok and drank this evening but she didn't spend more than 20 minutes wandering out of her cage tonight before she went back, curled up and went to sleep.
I just can't help but feel that she's depressed. We've ruled out medical problems and she's getting Meow Mix just to make sure she eats something. I've located a place that carries rescue remedy so I'm going to pick that up tomorrow.
She's extremely short tempered with the kit, biting and shaking her whenever the kit gets too close to her, so I've stopped sharing their playtime. She still sleeps with her cage mate though. I did wash the towel she came with and took out the old bedding because it was soiled, dirty and smelly. Should I contact the old owner and try to get some towels or something so that there is a scent she recognizes. She doesn't seem to want to play, just wander and bite things. I haven't heard her dook since the first night we let her out to play.
I really don't know what else to do for her.
