I need my mentor back!! Hehe! With the soup method do you use like chicken soup broth?? Yes Low sodium is prefered. Hmmm....I might even do something a tad different, and pair you up with Jaycee (if she's willing) since she JUST switched several older ferrets using this method. I started switching mine over with the low sodium chicken broth. I first started softening their kibble with it long before I ever considered a raw diet. This prepared them for the food switch. I would recommend going slow...to much stress with location change and food change on an ill body isn't good. I know with people it can actually exasterbate the progression of the illness. I would go very slow with him. I will give you a few steps to start with. 1. Take the existing ferret food, and start adding a few drops of low sodium chicken broth to it. I then microwave it 15 sec to help the kibble become softer, and to mingle the smell of the kibble and broth together. 2. Once he is eating at this stage a few days, I start food processing chicken into the kibble/broth mixture. I start off with very little chicken, and slowly add more as he progresses with the change. I did this to mine until they were eating only pure blended chicken. 3. Once eating pure blended chicken, I start to add kibble sized chunks to the mixture. If you notice him eating the larger chunks...congratulations, you are on your way! 4. Make the chunks bigger and bigger until eating large chunks of chicken. At this point you can start adding wingettes to his diet. This is just for starters....an idea of how you can go about this. Remember, keep his surroundings calm and quite while he adjusts. Remember. He is no longer in the only home he ever knew. Everything from sights, sounds and smells will be new. Make all changes as slow as possible. You are a very good person, and I believe he was meant to come into your life and you into his. You are now his guardian! I wish you the best luck, and I congratulate you on your new fuzz child! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I, as well as everyone else here on this forum, are here for you!
