Last night my MIL's sweetheart of a Maine Coon Cat passed She got John from a breeder, he was returned to her with two broken hips and back legs. Apparently the previous owner liked to kick him, why I have no idea he was the sweetest cheesecake loving cat I have ever known. The breeder, brought him immediately to the vet where he underwent three different surgeries to fix the damage...they had to completely remove the balls of his femurs to get them to fit into what was left of his hip joints...because of this damage he couldn't jump anymore and walked with a drunken swagger.... Momma fell in love with him when she went to get Nikki so much so that a few weeks later she went back to get him! JohnJohn never made a sound, never hissed or growled, never scratched or bit, endured tons of poking and prodding from the kids when they were babies...and the torment of an overly hyper Irish Wolfhound pup, Max...
About 6 months ago Momma noticed that John was starting to loose weight, even though he was eating normally. Off to Dr Gobel they went only to discover he had cancer in his kidneys and liver, it was so involved that surgery wasn't an option and chemo for pets isn't really an option when your not working... So Momma brought him home knowing that the end was nearing, about a week later he stopped eating all together...then while out in the garage he showed some interest in some ground chicken, he'd never shown any interest in raw before and dropped 8 lbs when Momma tried to switch him before so she kept him eating Evo... So about 4 months ago John switched himself to raw, I think that's why he stayed with us so long... he loved his patte, his double ground turkey and chicken with livers...if he could feel the bones he wouldn't eat it so it had to be double ground with a find blade. Yesterday morning Momma found him laying pretty much unresponsive, she knew it was time, and held and loved him until about 4:30 when he crossed to the Bridge...
