We are getting to the point where I really need to be sure Trixie is not in any pain. She is not eating well, but has not thrown anything up. At times she eats like she starving, though only a small amount, other times not at all. Could this be pain related? She still drinks lots on her own with out promting. What does grinding of the teeth look like? I dont want to miss it and really dont want her to suffer. Are there other signs I should look for?

You will hear teeth grinding. One of my guys Sam does it, he's been to the vet 3 times since october and we still are not sure why he's doing it... but it sounds just like a human gritting their teeth.

You will know it. Do you snuggle her a lot? I'm not questioning her care, this is how I check my little ones. When I'm snuggling, I will sit and gently rub my finger under the little ones chin. They really like it and it's a calming signal too. If they're grinding their teeth (and you've not heard it already, it can be really loud) you will feel it. If you sit quietly with little or no background noise (stereo's, tv's, loud conversations)you will hear them grind their teeth, it's unmistakable. I'm going to try and attach a video, through photobucket (I don't know if this will work or not) It's of my little Pooka, she's adrenal and she has a stomach ulcer. She's playing and scratching herself in a cat tower but, I do a close up on her and you will see her grinding her teeth. My computer or at least my internet is being really slow, I will try and load this later tonight ciao

I have not heard anything that sounds like grinding. She does a 'jaw smack' sort of thing that is new. No offense taken Heather. Right now she is with us just about 24/7, day and night. The only time she is not is when the others are crashed out side the cage, then i will lay her with one of them as i think she needs this as much as she needs our cuddles. She's not awake much other then to eat or use the bathroom. She seems to be sleeping peacefully, i just don't want to miss anything. She had her first seizure last night, which has freaked me out a bit.

The seizures are rather horrible to have to go through. The one consolation is that she's not aware while she's in the middle of one. She will be disorientated, and possibly a bit nauseaus when she comes out of it. She will also be exhausted. Poor wee thing. Healing candles are lit for her ciao

it sort of sounds like when you scrape the soft part of your fingertips with a piece of paper. it is unmistakeable. usually their eyes are almost shut (or one eye) while they are doing it. tears around their eyes is usually a dead giveaway. and 99.9% of the time you hear it when they are trying to eat. they eat small bits and then sit there for a long time grinding. is this your girl with insulinoma? if it is, then she most likely does it because she is nauseous. but that doesnt necessarily mean that she is in pain.

Yes she does have insulinoma and lymphoma. I'm more worried about the lymphoma causing pain, as the spleen is continuing to grow, and i'm sure will be causing her discomfort soon as it presses on other organs. We are watching her closely and except for increased seizures she does not seem to be in pain. Though I know that can change, i just want to be sure i know what i'm looking for. Thanks for the info.

Yesterday Trix started making a sound when she has a bowel movement. At first cause other things going on I was unsure what it was, but the next time I heard it forsure. Its almost grunt sound, but I think its actual grinding. the last two poops have been real small. (she is on soup and baby food) but good consistancy but can be a little on the mucusy side. Would pumpkin help, or should I assume this is more serious given her conditions?

Considering her condition....one assumes nothing. Try the pumpkin, it can't hurt her in anyway and will ease things if she's constipated or having tummy issues. ciao

When Cassi had her obstruction last year, she would grind her teeth. we're pretty sure she had that chunk of earplug in her tummy for weeks before it actually blocked her up enough to cause constant vomitting. Her grinding made very little sound, but she would just sit somewhere with her head close to the floor, squint her eyes and you could see the muscles that run across the top of her head tensing and releasing. look for that if you think she might be grinding.
