Ok, I have three of the wolverines already eating raw chicken, pork, etc. I'm still working on the one hold out; she's finicky so I have to convert her slower that I had hoped. The others have gotten to the point where they ignore her food dish and start looking for their meat. I was blocking off her part of the cage so that they won't get into her feed, but I think I'm going to stop that now. She just seemed so sad. Anyway my question is, at what age should I transfer them to whole prey? I won't be making the change at all until Piper is eating raw, I want them all at the same place when I make the next change over. I've read about how to do it and what to give them, just not at what age. Right now the girls are 3.5 months and the boys are 2.5 months. Thanks in advance!

I'd offer them the whole prey NOW! You may find that Piper will get triggered more easily with whole prey ( live if you can handle it) much more easily than raw. And especially if there is a bit of competition or she can observe the others enjoying proper food!
As far as age when a ferret can eat whole prey? As soon as they have teeth! There are many private breeders that are natural feeders and their baby ferrets are eating whole prey even before they can walk properly!
Cheers, Kim

Wow, that's great news! Thank you. And especially if there is a bit of competition or she can observe the others enjoying proper food!Piper is the dominant one. When they were eating her kibble she didn't mind sharing, but made it perfectly clear that she ate first. She even kicks them out of their hammocks! She's the leader and if you think otherwise she'll take your phone! live if you can handle itHrmmm. I don't think I'm ready for that just yet thank you. Frozen foods are one thing, but live mice and I don't get along well. I may try it at some point down the line and see how it goes (not for the ferrets, but for me, lol). I'll give Piper another week and then order some tasty whole prey for them! (I'm so glad I got them their own freezer and fridge!)
