Hello, I've bounced over here from Everything Ferret.
My name is Corri, I have a wonderful husband named Steven and the two of us are planning on getting a pair of ferrets within the next few months.
After a lot of reading I'm seriously thinking of a raw/prey diet for the furballs.
Am I ok to sign up for the mentor program even if I don't have any ferrets yet? I'd love to get a head start on everything I need to do.

Hi and welcome. Great stuff, love someone who thinks about doing their research before they get their little ones. You will have to wait to get your little ones before you sign up for the mentoring program, but don't be discouraged . Read through the mentoring threads. You can't post to those specific threads you can ask questions in the newbie section. Please feel free to prowl, read and ask questions, everyone is friendly and you will get a quick response. Keep us posted as to when your little ones make their appearance and we of course expect you to post pictures ciao

Thanks Heather and Sherry. I've been reading some threads and I think I have a good idea on where to start. I've also given Ferrets for Dummies a thorough read through.
We are looking at a Ferret at the local pet store but due to life reasons it won't be possible for us to get her before December. If she's still around then. She's been returned once as a 'biter', translation is the couple who bought her had a small child and she nipped him.
My husband and I are trying to find a way to get her sooner if we can but things are a little up in the air at the moment. I'll be sure to sign up for the program as soon as we get a fuzz ball though.

What a shame. I wish I knew how it was that some people simply don't seem to realize every young animal explores with their mouths

It makes me so angry that people don't read or do any learning before they get a pet. And it's sad seeing her all alone in the cage. She perks up so much when we come in and play with her. She nipped me a few times but it was never hard, didn't even pinch really. But I can see how if she was really excited the mouthing might get harder.
I found out today that the pet store has knocked her down to 50% off and is trying to get rid of her as they have a new set of kits coming in. The good news is that if she doesn't sell she'll be adopted out. But myself and my husband are trying to work something out so we can get her.

Oh the people who don't do any research before buying a pet -the bane of my existence You get so tired of seeing people who are either caring for their pets in completely inappropriate ways or re-homing them a month after getting them because they didn't understand what they were buying. With the advent of the internet there is really NO excuse not to do at least a little research. Unfortunately the irresponsible will always walk among us Anyway, enough ranting. Welcome to the forum! You'll find everyone here is very friendly and helpful. We all love to meet anyone interested in raw/whole prey diets and help them switch their fuzzbutts. Any and every question is answered

Hi and welcome! I am glad to see that you are doing your research! Keep reading around in the feeding and nutrition section until you get your fuzz. Also, if you get a baby or young fert, the switch should be nice and easy - almost instant. Koda was about 8 weeks when we brought him home and we just gave him meat from the get go. From the second he entered my door he never got a bite of kibble. (other than the bowls my roommate snuck into his cage Which I am proud to say he didn't even sniff once he tasted real food ). As the girl you are waiting on is a pet store ferret, I am assuming she is on the younger end of the spectrum, so hopefully your switch will be nice and easy. The mentor program is great too. Oh, and as the owner of the world's most troublesome only ferret, I really strongly suggest getting 2 ferrets if you can. It is a LOT more difficult having just one. holisticferret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talking&action=display&thread=5903Good luck! I look forwards to seeing you around the forum. And when you get her, Pics are absolutely mandatory.

Hey there! Welcome to the group, I hope you find the answers to all your questions and if you don't ask away. Everyone here is really great at answering questions no matter how small or silly they may seem, and believe me I've asked my fair share of silly questions! Can't wait to see pics of your fuzz when you get her!
